Name of designer (and current contact info, such as where is s/he is
currently working, if possible) who made coats amongst other clothing
at Park Slope clothing store about 2 years ago. I don't remember the
name of the store, but it is now closed. The store was off of Seventh
Ave in Brooklyn, between First St and St. John's. The store sometimes
had a sign on the corner of Seventh Ave and their street, directing
people to their store. I believe NY Metro might have written them up
at one time or another. The designer I'm looking for made these black
coats (sometimes on a dress form right outside the store) to
customers' sizes, and I'm hoping to find him/her so that I can ask
her/him to make one for me. |

Hi grommets,
I was just curious if you have looked for this designer
on newyork.craigslist.org

No, but that might be an idea. Would you file this under "discussion"
or "community?" And even within thos parameters, what would it go
under? My preferred would be "lost and found," but feel that would
not be the most helpful option. Thanks.

You're right about "lost and found", it seems to be mostly for lost pets and items.
I think "community">>>"general" would be your best bet for looking this person.
Also, there's a website (http://onparkslope.com)...
I think it's worth a shot asking them a question at:
http://onparkslope.com/contact.asp
..considering the store owner might also be the designer.
please let me know if you do find this designer.
Thanks.

So I asked and I received:
"Sorry, we don't know the designer. My wife thinks that the store
was called Otto. But we have since moved from Brooklyn, and also
do not know if its still open."
So no good luck there either. Otto is that pizza and gelato place,
although I recall the Bklyn store as having a cute, one-word name like
Otto.

I was hoping you found the designer.
I thought about looking in old Brooklyn Phone Books(Yellow and White
pages) before 2002 and posting a classified ad in the New York times.
...then I thought about Fashion Week (this week!);
you or someone else could hold a sign saying "looking for a designer
who worked at a Park Slope clothing store that sold custom black coats"
anyway, sorry I couldn't find the designer for you.
best of luck.

I would look up the store's owner/leasee on city records, except that
I have neither store name nor store address. The phone books would be
much more accessible than the city records, except I don't have any
crucial information. I am starting to think that my best bet would be
to ask around at long-time neighborhood stores or look through every
single issue of NY Metro from 2-3 years ago.
The problem with these two ideas is that I'm no longer living in New
York. This makes your Fashion Week idea, while creative, not
workable.
Anyways, thanks so much for your help. By the way, if I offered more
money, do you think people would look at this question? I feel as
though I just need to find the right audience to get the right answer
(style reporter of NY Metro, perhaps? or someone very much like
that), as Park Slope doesn't have many clothing stores, so this should
be an easy answer for someone who's "in the know" about fashion
stores.

Considering this question was posted in Miscellaneous, it's difficult
for me to know if you would get any response if you offered more money.
It's worth a shot.
anyway, I found some Forums where you can ask if anyone might
know the place you're talking about.
ELLE.com Forums:
http://www.elle.com/idealbb/forum.asp?forumID=1
The Fashion Forums @ the Forum Spot:
http://www.thefashionspot.com/forums/index.php?act=idx
URB1 Fashion Forums:

one more thing, do you consider your question answered in some way?

At this point, I've given up. I'm not going on the forums. Nobody
else noticed this store, not even the people who lived in Park Slope
and run a website about the neighborhood. Why else would the store
have closed, were it not for lack of consumers?
So the next time in town, I'll swing by the neighborhood to chat to
some people, if I have the time. I'm not going to stop thinking about
this until I find the designer and get a coat. That's when I'll
consider the question answered. Thanks for your help in clarifying
the question, but maybe people just don't know who I'm talking about.
