Hello. I'm Amit Sanghvi, an IT professional. I'm looking for some kind of 'free code'/application/tutorial which can help me build a web page where i can enter a post code and a distance (ie 5 KM) and i should get back all the hotels within the 5 km area around the post code. (something on the lines of : http://www.findachevron.com/oilchange/ ofcourse, i will want it for UK post codes ... don't mind if it is generic) I will need to know how will i be able to access the GIS data needed for such an application. Will it be central located at some website, or will i need to buy it and load it into my database or can i get free of cost? I would prefer the code to be in PHP or JAVA or PLSQL (oracle) I am not sure if my questions are clear. If you need any clarrifications, do let me know. Thanks. | |

http://thomsonlocal.com/ is one for UK. local.yahoo.co.uk uses its results. I *suppose* you could write something that interfaces with that site? |

You could use Open source API to read the GIS data (This data you could purchase form any store - it is the same CD which is used for Navigation systems in Car). http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/geotools/geotools-bin-2.0.RC1.zip?use_mirror=unc |
