Hello. I have had Outlook 2002 (from an Office XP CD) on my computer
for over a year. Recently, my Outlook has been freezing up. At first
it starts normally. The small Outlook box starts up (the one with the
license number). Then the main Outlook window opens and all the
folders appear on the left hand side. The hour glass turns, but then
a window opens up with "Personal Folders - Microsoft Outlook" in the
top blue bar. The rest of the box is white. Nothing else happens.

I've tried:
1. Starting Outlook in safe mode (that doesn't work).
2. Repairing Outlook with my Office XP CD (that doesn't do anything).
3. System Restore (my restore points are no good for some reason).
4. Uninstalling and reinstalling Office XP (but Outlook still gets hung up).
5. Scanning my Outlook.pst file for problems using the "scanpst" utility.
6. Changing the Outlook.pst file to Outlook.bak.
7. Changing my extend.dat file to extend.old.
8. Changing my outcmd.dat file to outcmb.old.
9. Installing all updates to Windows and Office XP.

Nothing seems to work. Any help would be really appreciated. If you
could call me, that would be great. My name is Ort and my phone
number is 509-869-6584.

Thanks!
Ort

(I think they'll yell at ya for putting your phone number.)

I would try this (and I've supported Outlook for years):
Close down Outlook.
Find ALL PST files and move them out of the Outlook folder.
Start Outlook again and have it create a new PST.
How's it going? Still crawling?

If GOOD, then File-Import and go get your stuff from your other PSTs.
Make sure you don't go over 2GB!

If NOT GOOD, then you'd better dump Outlook's registry key:
Close Outlook.
Hit Start-Run and type regedit and hit enter.
Browse to hkey_current_user\software-microsoft\office\10.0\outlook and
right-click and rename outlook to oldoutlook.
Close the registry editor and launch Outlook again.

Thank you very much for the comments!!! I use Outlook for everything
and feel like I can't operate properly with it not working.

Could you tell me how I go about finding the PST files? So far, I
found the "Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 10" folder, but I am
not sure where to search for the PST files. When I find the PST
files, do I just cut and past them someplace else? I have lots of
e-mails in Outlook, mostly I cut and paste the old e-mails into
Personal Folders. Maybe I have more than 2GB. What happens when you
have more than 2GBs? Would I need to delete some?

Thank you very much again for all of your help!
