I'd like to know some generalizations about college students in the regions of the United States and Canada. I'm looking for New England, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, South, Southwest, West, and Canada (in general). In terms of what I'd like to know about is how they behave, how competitive they are, what they like to do, why they choose those regions, etc. Basically, any information about them. Thanks! |

For info on Canadian University students try Macleans Magazine. They put out an issue with info on all Canadian Uni's- their students, groups, bars, hang outs, subjects, specialties rankings etc etc. http://www.macleans.ca/universities/index.jsp The site isn't great but you might be able to order an past issue. |

Hi googleeyes, "I'd like to know some generalizations about college students in the regions of the United States and Canada. I'm looking for New England, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, South, Southwest, West, and Canada (in general)." It is much easier to make generalizations about the students that go to particular schools no matter what region they are in. For instance, consider two different universities in Virginia. The students at the University of Virginia, for the most part, are considered very academic, preppy, competitive, and mabye even arrogant. Of course, there are exceptions. Also, most of the students at UVA are white--there is little diversity. Only one hour away from UVA is Virginia Commonwealth University. The students here are generally considerably different from those at UVA despite the close proximity of the schools. VCU students are much more diverse (white, black, latino, etc.) They are probably (generally) less competitive than those at UVA as well. Again, there are execptions. I went to both universities so I know a little about the students that are enrolled there. As for resources consider "The Fiske Guide to Colleges" or the Princeton guide to colleges. These (and other books like it) can be found at your local bookstore or Barnes & Noble. |
