How do I record all my e-mail data on a CD-R using Roxio Easy CD
Creator 5 (all Outlook Express folders and incoming mail, read or
unread) just as it appears when I open my e-mail screen. I want to
record it to a CD-R. I have accomplished this action on a CD-R, BUT,
it has been recorded in a type of
interactive mode, whereby, any action I take on the active e-mail
Outlook express affects my CD-R data, and visa-versa, the CD-R with my
e-mail Outlook Express.
Thus, I cannot really delete all my active Outlook Express E-mail
folders and incoming
mail, as they will be removed from the CD-R also. What did I do
wrong?

If you've honestly burned your info to a CD-R and not a CD-RW, you're
very much not likely to have the ability to delete from the CD.

Outlook Express is a pain with regards to its storage model.

The information is buried deeply (you'll have to View, Folder options,
and unhide hidden files and folders):
c:\documents and settings\%username%\Local Settings\application
data\Identities\{some really long number}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\

You should burn everything starting with the "Identities" folder, just to be safe.

Since it is difficult for the average person to select any other place
for the data of Outlook Express to be located, any changes that you
might see to data are probably happening on your hard drive. You can,
however, IMPORT the data from CD (OE6, at least).

To sum up: you probably aren't accessing your CD's copy of mail (to
find out, take the CD out). You may have not really burned the email
set. You can't run outlook express from CD storage. Even if you copied
the data from CD, you'd have to put it where OE is expecting to find
it. Also, you'll have to remove the "Read Only" tag if you aren't
importing it. You can't change data burned on a CD-R. (OK, you can if
you are using mutli-session support and haven't finalized the CD-R,
but that won't give you an interactive "drive letter" such as with
packet writing on a CD-RW.)

geuss it would depend on how many messages you were backing up
personally I'm not into special formats for email I more for plaintext
emails saving something

Open the message in Outlook Express
Select File | Save As
Select Text Files (*.txt) from file type menu
name the file
hit Save

you can burn txt files like any other type if you arnt concered about
the safety of the data .. however if your interested in saving images
etc.. it may be another process.

this page may be an start to transfering the data around
http://www.iopus.com/guides/oe-backup.htm

if you dont know how to burn data usually its a simple as go to burn
type from a couple datacd should do it then selet the files by finding
the directory and selecting it for all of them usually you can do
crtl-a for select hit ok and burn you may have to select the speed
etc..

email clients exercise registry protection sometime... if you export
the files then burn it..

The best thing would be to create an offline inbox , and write rules
so that all the mails in the actual inbox would be copied to the
offline inbox. This is a regular practice with outlook users.
Once u have created this offline inbox (Saved as a .pst file) just
burn ur pst into a cd. Anytime u want to retrieve an old burned inbox
, just load ur cd in , and in outlook got to File -> open -> datafile
and then open the pst file and there u see ur offline-inbox .
