Hello, I can't 100 % confirm that this John Davenport is your man. I would bet the house on it though. . . According to a New York Times obit from June 12, 1987, John Davenport was an author, freelance writer, and an assistant managing editor of Fortune magazine. He was 82 years old when he died in 1987. From 1949 to 1954 he was an asst. editor at Barron's. Born in Philly, PA, Davenport attended Yale where he graduated in 1926. He was the author of ''The Lives of Winston Churchill,'' written with Charles J. V. Murphy, and ''The U. S. Economy.'' He died at Riverview Hospital in Red Bank, N.J. Surviving family members include: his wife, Marie; six daughters, Ann Mavroleon and Susan Brooke of London, Glorianna Davenport of Cambridge, Mass., Amy Durrance of Montpelier, Vt., Sharon Davenport of Oakland, Calif., and Caroline Johnson of Brooklyn; a son, John, of New Brunswick, N.J., and five grandchildren Source: New York Times. June 12, 1987. Section D; Page 28, Column 5; Metropolitan Desk. Late City Final Edition MORE INFO: Apparently, the Hoover Inst. of Stanford has Davenport's papers in their archives. I'm not sure how deep your research aims are, but you might want to gain access to the papers. John Davenport's papers <http://www-hoover.stanford.edu/pubaffairs/ar2000/library-archives.html> Hoover Inst contact info: <http://www-hoover.stanford.edu/Main/form/form.html> Google search keywords: "john davenport" barron's I hope this is the right guy. There should be no problem constructing a two paragraph bio from the info I've provided. Here is a list of books authored. I do not have a complete bibliography of his essays. You might post another question requesting a bibliography. The U.S. economy. Davenport, John. Chicago, H. Regnery Co., 1964 The lives of Winston Churchill. Davenport, John,; Murphy, Charles John Vincent. New York, C. Scribner's sons, 1945 Economics and the study of law: The contributions of Henry C. Simons,Katz, Wilber Griffith,Davenport, John.[Chicago] Law School, Univ. of Chicago 1946 Of the American mission. Davenport, John, 1904-1987. New York : National Association of Manufacturers, 1964.
