I am looking for information on how to bottle my own rootbeer using artificial carbonation. I am currently bottling my own homemade rootbeer using natural carbonation with yeast. I am aware that artificial carbonation can be done using kegging systems, but I have not been able to find any information on how to bottle my rootbeer (or any other type of soda for that matter) when using CO2 artificial carbonation. Obviously companies like IBC and Spreckers are botting their soda. |

http://byo.com/recipe/312.html A safer way to carbonate: Get a CO2 system and either put your root beer in 5-gal. soda kegs (force carbonated) or get Carbonater-brand couplings and bottle in 2-liter PET bottles (force carbonated at 25 to 28 psi, chilled and shaken well). http://www.liquidbread.com/faq.html http://www.stoutbillys.com/stout/infonsf/Library/0FF30A5F.htm "I've also made root beer and force carbonated it in a 5-gal soda keg. There is a gadget that is available at many homebrew shops called "The Carbonator." It retails for just under ten bucks. It is basically a quick disconnect fitting, the same size as is found on Cornelius kegs, that screws onto the top of a two liter P.E.T. bottle. The soda is force carbonated in the PET bottle. I've used my Carbonator for two batches of root beer and it's worked well. The only drawback is that it is only possible to do one bottle at a time. I'm considering turning to yeast so I can have a larger supply of soda on hand." |

I have seen this "Carbonator" product. I did not like it because you have to use plastic bottles. I need to use glass bottles. |

http://byo.com/feature/547.html "You should use plastic soda bottles. Do not use glass. Should you overcarbonate in glass, you may find yourself with little glass grenades. In addition plastic bottles allow you to "feel" when the carbonation process is finished. When the bottle is rock hard, it is time to refrigerate it to stop the carbonation process." Maybe the companies are afraid of getting sued, so the kits use plastic bottles. You might consult these fellow afficianados: http://www.rootbeerworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums |
