In July 2004 the term "revebebe" was searched for in the major search
engines over 100,000 times. 70% of these searches originated from
France.

Below are the searches made from France in Juillet 2004
Number of times / Searched for:

 71979 / revebebe
 226 / revebebe histoire
 215 / histoire erotique revebebe
 159 / revebebe histoire erotique
 116 / histoire revebebe
 101 / revebebe free
 64 / revebebe recits erotique

Please explain what exactly these people are looking for. I do not
understand French and ReveBebe is not in dictionaries. Include as much

thanksmate...

As a summary:

In searching Google for the terme revebebe, I used the "Translate the
Page" feature and realized that all the pages with that term also had
something to do with erotica. When broken down into two separate
words, reve, rêve, means dreams and bebe translates to baby, so direct
translation is "baby dreams". That being said, it seems that
bebereve.free.fr is the largest collection (and from seeing the
ratings of visitors, one of the most popular) of French language
erotic stories on the web. The ever enterprising owners of sexually
explicit sites on the internet realize that visitors to this site may
be looking for a certain type or, shall we say, content in their
surfing habits. Based upon your realization that in June that term was
searched over 100,000 times, seems they were right. Therefore,
several of these sites are using the term "revebebe" as keywords to
attract visitors.

And thanks to the ever-spectacular abilities of the Pink one, her
hypothesis of the how the term revebebe came to being seems to be the
best possibility.

Thanks for your question. If you need any additional clarification,
please let me know.

Regards,

-THV

Being that I am not French nor do I speak French, I am posting this as
a comment. If it suffices for your answer, please let me know.

I think that you should ask tar_heel_v to post his comment as an
answer. I know a fair amount of French, and unless you need specific
details about the Revebebe site, I believe that tar_heel_v's
explanation is essentially as complete as one could want. (The only
thing I would add is that "Rêve, bébé" means "Dream, baby", and that
"baby" also has the adult connotation in French that it does in
English ("Hey, baby!").)

ahh i get it now: histoire = story, not history, which is what i
thought... so it's perverts looking for "erotic dream babe stories"...
thanks for your help; the 10 bucks is yours.

could you please include an explanation why this term (revebebe) is so
popular... i mean, is revebebe the name of a magazine, or nickname of
a famous person?

i thank you both very much

Again, since I don't live in France, I can't offer you an explanation
to the popularity of the term. I tend to think, based upon the
translation of the two terms, it simply has become a slang term. Maybe
someone else can shed some light on where/how it came to be.

A song called "Dream Baby," recorded by Roy Orbison, was immensely
popular in France in the early 1960s. In French, "Dream Baby" is "Rêve
Bébé." I speculate that this may be the origin of the phrase's
popularity in France.
