The card reader really shouldn't need drivers per se. The application that uses this card reader should just need to know where to look for the reader (which COM port). If you're attempting to "roll your own" connection to the card reader, you can check it out with connections using Hyperterminal. Once connected to Hyperterminal and the proper com port, you can scan a test card using various baud rates. I can't tell you for sure, but maybe 1200 or 2400 baud, 8 bits/No parity/1 stop bit will read the card (7/E/2 is another option). Just try different configs until the scan is legible. Most scanners are supposed to be as invisible to the system as possible. That is to say, they should plug and play just like a keyboard. An RS232 connection should be rather painless, but not as much as a keyboard wedge. I really don't think drivers will be necessary. |

Though this is NOT an olivetti, perhaps these settings can work: 9600 baud or higher, 8 bits Even parity 1 stop bit. (from a magtek manual) 9600 8N1 or 9600 8E1 X-On/Xoff seems to be popular among mag stripe readers. Do you have an application already or are you adapting the hardware to an application? |
