Howdy mojito74-ga,

It does not appear that conditions are favorable for mineral water sales
in the former Soviet Union. From the Finam Financial Analyst web site.
http://www.fin-rus.com/sector/consumer0000400181/default.asp

"The mineral water market features fierce competition at this time, and
shows a consolidation tendency expressed in the major players? takeover
of the lesser participants of this market segment.
...
Still, for now we don?t see how the company plans to reap any benefits
in the mineral water sector, since competition is quite fierce, and
production is season-dependent (sales volumes tend to decrease in winter)."

In a later article on the same site, this analysis of the mineral water
market is the same.
http://www.fin-rus.com/sector/consumer0000400388/default.asp

"As we noted previously (see Daily dated August 26, 2003), we see no future
for WBD on the mineral water market, which is marked by fierce competition
and nearly saturated."

There are all sorts of companies in Russia selling mineral water, but as
the above referenced article states, there is some consolidation happening
in the market. It appears the market has suffered along with the economy
in Russia, as in 2002 the market appeared a bit better. Here is a Pravda
article from that time.
http://english.pravda.ru/comp/2002/07/17/32710.html

"Nestle, the world's largest food maker, became the latest international
company to target the Russian bottled water market by buying Saint Springs
Ltd., one of the country's top mineral water makers.
...
Coca-Cola Co. and PepsiCo Inc. ... have targeted the Russian bottled water
market in recent years with their BonAqua and Aqua Mineral brands. The market
is growing as the economy expands for the fourth straight year and Russians
drink less tap water, which is of low quality."

A further article on the Finam Financial Analyst web site has numbers of how
many brands there are in Russia as well as a market breakdown of the largest
brands. The market saturation problem is repeated as well.
http://www.fin-rus.com/sector/consumer0000400443/default.asp

"According to the State Statistics Committee, the Russian market offers over
700 brands of mineral water.
...
The domestic mineral water market is nevertheless approaching a high degree
of saturation, since such brands as Narzan, Essentuki, Borzhomi and Saint
Spring cover up to 50%, whereas Coca-Cola and PepsiCo command about 18-20%
of the market."

The aptly named mineralwaters.org is a great resource on this subject.
http://www.mineralwaters.org/

"mineralwaters.org ... offers comprehensive information about and around
bottled water."

The above site has a listing of some 38 brands of Russian mineral water.

- Akba Minerale
- Aksinia
- Aksu
- Aqua Minerale
- Baikal
- Biba
- Bonaqua
...

This University of Pittsburgh web page has some scanned images of Russian
mineral water bottle labels.
