Hi doc9, Windows XP SP2 is for the Internet Explorer browswer... has no effect on Netscape. Netscape came out with a Service Pack 2 for the Netscape Enterprise Server Version 6.1. Netscape Enterprise Server Release Notes - Updated on: January 17, 2003 http://enterprise.netscape.com/docs/enterprise/612/es61sp2note.htm "These release notes contain important information available at the time of the Service Pack 2 release of Netscape Enterprise Server (NES) Version 6.1. New features and enhancements, installation notes, known problems, and other late-breaking issues are addressed here. Read this document before you begin using Enterprise Server." Note that Windwos XP SP2 is NOT just for Internet Explorer--it also addresses fundamental issues in the Windows Operating system (as well as some fixes in IE). The Windows XP fixes will benefit you irregardless of what browser you are using. The SP also enhances the built-in Windows firewall, which again, will benefit you irregardless of the browser you are using. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/plan/xpsp2ff.mspx http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx those two links might help microsoft imo tends to look after microsoft products.. it seems very much weighted to IE as IE is in many ways a relative to windows explorer and they cross migrate at times. XP updates will deal with xp and the value added(core) components at tiems (windows media outlook etc..) so if you're using XP and navi you should get any security updates for XP and for NAVI (seperately) as well as updates for any other software just doing the XP isn't enough if your concerned about security. also using ms default setting may not be enough. you can consider blocking ports uninstalling services you dont use and a host of other options. |
