I did a term paper on the effects of the UK Housing Market and
interest rates with specific look at the problems that the UK faces in
its compatibility with EMU; the problem it would face with the loss of
monetary policy.

Most of the stuff I have is prob too much about EMU but these two
sites is where I got the majority of information from:

http://www.statistics.gov.uk - ONS Homepage with mountains of stats on this
http://www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/ - Lots of stuff here that discusses
housing in the UK, its heavy on EMU but prob still relevant.

One thing i just remembered - The Miles Review.

Was a review of housing finance. Its suggestion was to encourage
greater use of fixed interest rate mortgages. Most of Europe has lower
home ownership than the UK and the mortgages tend to be fixed rate,
not fixed in UK sense of 1-5 years but fixed for the full duration of
the mortgage, which would reduce the effects of interest rate changes
on the disposable income of homeowners and increase the ability of the
UK economy to absorb economic shocks. Ultimately, making EMU a viable
prospect.
