Question ID: 396901
I have two almost empty rolls of "Natural Tubular Teflon Tape" .44"
width, and no receipt or company name. It is a roll of ten yards, and
is used in radio telemetry "backpack" harnesses on hawks. I have
serial and product numbers that did not immediately list results on a
google search, but I imagine this product is not too hard to find. I
would be happy with a weblink, phone number, or company name so I can
order more very soon. I'd love an answer in a couple days if
possible.

Here is the product number: 847600440N
8476- 44" Natural Tubular Teflon Tape
Bar Code number: 2434280003

Thanks so much!!

Hi jtmandel,

I've spent about 30 minutes on your question and so far have been
unable to find your exact product. Two questions ---

If I'm ultimately unable to find it, are you interested in contact
information for other manufacturers and suppliers of similar products
-- that is tubular teflon tape commonly used in avian harnesses?

And, if so, does it have to be exactly .44" wide? I ask because I have
found .5" width, but not .44".

Still searching --

Hi Knowledge Seeker,

That would be fine. I'd be satisfied with a list of companies so I
could find the one that best approximates the product I'm already
using. Thanks for checking into it!

Hi jtmandel,

After a great deal of searching I?ve been able to come up with only
two companies that offer Teflon ribbon that?s specifically used for
avian harnesses ? one a manufacturer, the other a retailer of wildlife
electronics.

Below those two companies, in case they aren?t suitable, I?ve provided
some other options for you to pursue. I was not able to confirm that
any of them offered the product you?re looking for, but they may be
able to give you information on where to purchase it.

It appears that the main supplier of Teflon ribbon for avian harnesses
is a company called Bally Ribbon Mills in Pennsylvania. As you can
see from these search results, the company is mentioned as the
manufacturer of the Teflon ribbon used in avian transmitter harnesses
by both US and Canadian government wildlife agencies.

TEFLON RIBBON MANUFACTURERS

Bally was the only manufacturer referenced in Teflon ribbon used on
birds. I did find other manufacturers of Teflon tape but am not sure
they?ll be useful. First, we don?t know the exact specifications of
the ribbon used on birds and whether or not something similar would be
safe, and second, large manufacturers are not retailers, so only sell
in bulk.

I guess its not such a big industry! Your answer was very helpful,
and I think Bally Ribbon Mill will have the product I'm looking for.
Thanks!
