I am looking for the title of a book that I read years ago, and have
no idea of who the offer was. It was science fiction, and started out
with a young man bowling. He happened to look over, and notice the
person bowling beside him had 6 fingers. After this he followed the
man out, and basically after that got into what seemed almost similar
to a Planet of the Apes theme where he either travelled in space
and/or time to help smart apes who treated him as subhuman.

In "The Six Fingers of Time," a novella by R. A Lafferty, a cabal of
six-fingered people rules the world. The story also involves time
travel. I don't think there are any apes, though.
