Hello pelicano,
The Van Nuys German Deli appears to have quark. It's not open now or
on Monday, but you can call to confirm availability on Tuesday. The
deli's web site is not working; but I called its number, and got a
message indicating that it remains open the same days and hours
indicated on the former web site.

Other German grocery stores in Southern California are listed on the
following pages. (If you're curious whether they carry quark, you
should probably call first before driving over, especially since some
stores may no longer exist or may have moved.)

"Shopping - Groceries and Meat Products"

I haven't found a source for Dutch kwark in southern California,
though I have found two lists of Dutch grocery stores, including ones
in southern California.
"Dutch Products"

"Places to buy/order Food from *home* are:"

If all else fails, I assume you can find out where to obtain
kwark/quark by contacting the persons who have posted these lists of
Dutch and German shops.
Please let me know if you need any additional information for this answer.

Thanks for this info, but unfortunately, this doesn't answer my
specific question. I called the numbers below, but none of them have
the dessert kwark I am looking for. And it is the dessert variety that
I am specifically looking for (not the plain variety).

I realize now that I did overlook the "dessert" qualification in your
question. Unfortunately, I'm going to be away for several days, so I
won't be able to follow up immediately on your request. But you
deserve the answer you asked for, so I will do more research when I
return next weekend. I hope that you can wait until then. I am sorry
for the delay.

I have contacted some people who may know the right stores to find
this product. I will let you know if they provide any helpful
information on dessert kwark/quark in southern California. In any
event, I will continue my own research, so that you can get the answer
you want.

Just to keep you updated: I haven't received any new information,
except that someone knowledgeable about Dutch food said that she
hasn't been able to get dessert or plain kwark, and that the local
store indicated to her it was difficult to import.
I may have to expand the search to fromage frais. In any event, I'll
let you know what I find.

Here's a possibility. Nicole's Gourmet Foods (
http://nicolesgourmetfoods.com/home.htm ) in South Pasadena offers:
"FROMAGE BLANC W/ FRUITS 45% (x12 4/100 GM) /PK"
"Cheeses" (under "Imported Cheeses")
Nicole's Gourmet Foods
http://nicolesgourmetfoods.com/product_cat/cheeses.htm
This page (under "Domestic Cheeses") also describes "fromage blanc" as
"quark." Other pages similarly indicate that "fromage blanc,"
"fromage frais," "kwark," and "quark" are equivalent. And I believe
"w/ fruits" means the dessert variety.
Do you think that I've found the correct item? Please let me know;
I'd be happy to do follow-up if needed.
Incidentally, here's a list of French food sources in the Los Angeles
area, including Nicole's Gourmet Foods:

Well, it looks as though you've found something here! I will have to
check out the product itself to see what it's like of course. But this
certainly looks like an answer to my question.
