Greetings again! To answer the first part of your question, I would
suggest you contact the Commercial Service of the U.S. Embassy in
Bucharest. They represent the interests of the U.S. Department of
Commerce in Romania, and should be able to put you in contact with the
proper institutions.
They state as their mission: "Our mission is to promote exports of
goods and services from the United States, particularly by small
businesses and medium-sized businesses, and to protect United States
business interests abroad. Our core business is providing timely,

develop global markets. We do this through a combination of
cost-effective basic and specialized services including market
identification and entry programs, market expansion services, and
market access and development activities."
I would say this would be your main Internet resource in locating the
businesses, and they may be contacted in a variety of ways:

Also, at the same site is a list of US business support agencies that
can be accessed from the left column on the main page. Included there
were agencies such as the U.S. Trade and Development Agency and the
Export-Import Bank of the United States. Their contact information is
on the same page.
To locate this information, I searched Google with the key phrase "US
businesses international expansion Romania" and the site returned was

To address the second part of your question, I searched for "Romanian
business" and found a site titled AfaceriOnline. This site has a
search engine which returns information in a variety of ways. I
entered "Romania" into the main page search box (located at the upper
right) and chose "Directory" and "Companies Names". There are more
combinations to search as well which offer Directory, Showrooms and
Trade Offers coupled with the terms Companies Names and Products and
Services. Utilizing the combinations, you will find varied results.
I chose "Romania" in the "Directory" coupled with "Companies Names"
and it produced the following:

Greetings again! Thank you very much for your patience with my
complete answer. I do not think my inability to reach the Google
search engine is any fault of Google, and may be because of a slow or
broken Internet link not related to Google or because the Internet is
extraordinarily busy today. In either case, I do appreciate your
continued patience.
To address part III of your question concerning newsgroups, I found
many sites offering international business newsgroups, some of which
may include Romanian business news.
Searching "eastern europe business newsgroups" I discovered a site
titled "News about Estonia, Baltics, Central and Eastern Europe,
World" which offered a variety of links. I also found "Global
Business Centere" which had a link titled "North American Association
For Exports To Eastern Europe". I think that site may be of interest
to you as well, and may be a solid news source for Romania.

Hello Journalis -Ga
Thanks for your effort and interesting results. Although I got a lot
of info most of it relates to Romania/Romanian who want to do business
with USA.
I am interested in the other way around-US firms which are interested
in Romania.
For example the site of the Department of Commerce which you mentioned
as premier site for my needs it is a good start for businesses in USA
which are interested in Romania.
It doesn't help me to much since this agency is doing exactly what I
want to do-Business Development of American Based Businesses in
Romania.
So , I can't really get information from there.
What I am really looking for is for places where I can offer my
services such as (and not limited to) Associations of different
Industries, Messages Boards, Industries Clubs, others
I hope that now my request is more focused I will get more specific
results
Thanks

Dear Abooza:
Thank you for your clarification. I do need a few futher
clarifications so that I will know exactly what to research:
Is the business you wish to conduct specific to a certain industry, or
are you willing to develop any type of business in order do business
with the US?
Will you conduct business with any US company?
Will you conduct business with the US government?
If you will answer these questions, I will be able to better focus on
your needs. Thank you for requesting clarification and I hope to hear

Greetings Journalist!!
I will try to answer your qustions as focused as I can:
Q: Is the business you wish to conduct specific to a certain industry
A: No
Q: Are you willing to develop any type of business in order do
business
with the US?
A: Yes. I am not living in USA . I have the credentials needed to
facilitate US businesses in Romania.
Q: Will you conduct business with any US company?
A: My objective is to help US businesses to start activities in
Romania. I would like to find out who is interested in what and try to
initiate an activity to achieve this goal of doing business in
Romania.I am sure that there are plenty who would like to explore
business opportunities in Romania but because of the
distance, language, burocracy and other hurdles they simply do not
start this activity. I want to offer initiating steps to start this
activity. In short again I would like to indentify sources of leads to
industries, investors that would like to explore business
opportunities in Romania.
In this sense you may call it doing business with US Companies
Q: Will you conduct business with the US government?
A: As a second priority (not at the beggining)
Appreciate your efforts,
Sincerely
Abooza

Dear Abooza:
To first address my question for clarification on the government
business issue, I discovered a site during one of the previous
searches titled EcoLinks. Their mission statement began with the
following:
"The EcoLinks Program is one of several mechanisms that the US Agency
for International Development (USAID) created to provide assistance in
addressing environmental issues in the region of Europe and Eurasia
(E&E). EcoLinks addresses solutions to environmental problems
throughout the region by establishing lasting partnerships among
environmental businesses, governments, and associations in the region,
and between these organizations and their counterparts in the United
States."
Ecolinks seems to act as a liason between the Eastern European
countries and the US companies when the businesses surround
environmental issues. In addition, EcoLinks offers partnership grants
to Romanian companies:
"EcoLinks Partnership Grants build the capacity of businesses and
local governments in the region to develop market-based solutions to
urban and industrial environmental problems. EcoLinks is based on
cross-border partnerships. By learning from each other or from US
experience and capabilities, the countries in the region can shorten
the timeline for addressing environmental issues. EcoLinks
partnerships are broadly defined, though all partnerships are expected
to provide benefits to both parties."
"Only businesses, local governments, and associations of businesses
and local governments with activities in the environmental field are
eligible for the grants. The EcoLinks Grants are implemented through
three regional offices in Szentendre (Hungary), Washington, DC (United
States), and Kiev (Ukraine). In addition, EcoLinks has local offices
in Bulgaria, Croatia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia,
Kazakhstan, Romania, the Russian Far East, and Ukraine.
So, if you were to begin a company that dealt with the above issues,
this EcoLinks program would put you in touch with US companies
involved in the same area. That was the impetus for my clarification
request about the government. While you place it second to your
needs, you might consider looking more deeply into the EcoLinks
program as it might serve your needs.
As you mentioned, the Department of Commerce is a great place to begin
queries regarding your needs. In case you didn't see this link from
them, it is the Trade Opportunity Program from the US government site:
"Identifies and provides to American firms timely sales leads from
local companies and government agencies seeking to buy or represent
U.S. products or services. TOP leads are printed daily in leading
commercial newspapers and are also distributed electronically via the
Department of Commerce Economic Bulletin Board at www.stat-usa.gov
<http://www.stat-usa.gov>
The link on that page takes you to the main StatUSA page which had a
link to Globus NTDB. The Globus explanation reads "Access this area
for current and historical trade-related releases, international
market research, trade opportunities, country analysis, and our trade
library...the National Trade Data Bank (NTDB). Access to files for
subscribers only."
You may want to subscribe to their services for trade opportunities.
I also located the American Romanian Chamber of Commerce which looks
as if membership in it may produce many solid leads. This
organization states "American-Romanian Chamber of Commerce USA
provides members and non-members (for a fee) with commercial
information on both the U.S. and Romania. The Chamber maintains close
contacts with the U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Chamber of
Commerce, Romanian Embassy, Washington D.C., Consulate General of
Romania, Los Angeles, California, Chamber Of Commerce and Industry of
Romania, and over 100 regional American and Romanian Chambers of
Commerce and business associations, to identify business, trade and
investment opportunities."
There are various levels of membership and it looks to be a good place
to network for trade possibilities, and by studying their information,
you may get a better idea of exactly what type of business to target
that will interest US companies.
search term:
"Romania US companies interested"
