This is a very hard question for me to deal with...

Athough many times I pose a fun question, today's question is very SERIOUS..

Today I went to my son's place for a fun family BBQ...

What happened is still unbelievable to all of us...

Son's dog (Dalmation - teensy 7 yr old)...was tied up in back
yard...length of the exact property...

When suddenly..a teensy Yorkie ran into yard...

Hard as it is for me to say...the Dalmation grabbed the little dog in
her jaws..My son had to pull her away.
Both dogs suffered scars and cuts... the little one had eye and tooth damage...

My question is: The little dog wandered onto private property where a
dog was was tied up...

Is a lawsuit by the little dog's owner's appropriate?? Their dog was
roaming leashless onto private property...

Has anyone got a clue as far as a what the owners of the Yorkie may do??

Keep in mind that the Dalmation was tied up on her own property and
the little dog bounced into yard attacking her...

Hi, Steph

Sorry to hear about the dog incident.

These things happen.

Before we got Daisy we heard of one Yorkie having its head bitten off
by an Alsatian (German Shepherd); and Daisy herself was once picked up
and savaged by an Airedale who came up behind her while she was on a
lead.

As your incident was on private property, I would say that the Yorkie was to blame.

All the Best

Look up your municipal code to see if you have a leash law. Showing
that they violated the law helps your case. imho, you demonstrated
reasonable care by restraining your dog and have no worries.

Probably nothing will happen because he only hurt another dog. The
real potential problem could come in the future if the dog ever
attacked a person, because the dog would have a known history of being
violent and this would mean that you knowingly kept a dangerous dog
and that's when the law can potentially come down on you very hard.
