Question ID: 397390
Task: there will be a cell named "Sales" in each sheet 1 and sheet 2, and in
sheet 3, the summary sheet, there will be a cell pulling Sales from Sheet
1 - using formula =Indirect("sheet1!Sales"), and another cell pulling Sales
from Sheet 2 - using formula =Indrect("Sheet2!Sales").

Question: How do I name cells in multiple sheets with the same name?
I have an model that does this but don't know how this is done. In
that model, when Define Name box is activated, there are sheet names
diplayed to the right of names appeared in more than one sheet.

Thanks.

hummer-ga,

This is the exact discussion to my question and the two solutions
offered - copying sheet and through Define Name box - both work and
are both very helpful.

Thanks for the help and the quick turnaround.

silver777-ga,

Thanks for the comment, but I am afraid it is not what I was looking for.

I needed cells/ranges to have the same name in multiple sheets so that
in a summary table in another sheet, I will have cells of each column
having excaly the same formula - pulling sheet names from a sheet-name
range, say the first column, and pulling data from cells in respective
sheets using the same name.

Hi SeanZ,

I could send you a copy of what I used in my business. But Google
won't allow contact.

I think I have a simple answer, so I will attempt description.
Firstly, think of the word "wholistic". Instead of each page being a
separate entity, each relates to the next. So, let's say K1=sum(A1

Hi SeanZ,

I think I have a simple answer, so I will attempt description.
Firstly, think of the word "wholistic". Instead of each page being a
separate entity, each relates to the next. So, let's say A12 =
sum(A2:A10). The total of A12 can then form part of the formula in the
first cell of Page 2 as say a sub-total in Cell A1 of Page 2. That is
say A24 (page 2) = A12:A20. This will give you a cumulative effect at
any point in time.

You can name your sheets or cells as you wish. To differentiate, just
call them March, April, May or Spare Parts, Service, New .. whatever.

The cumulative total of each given period is easily rolled over to the
next, without detracting from the given period sales.

I don't know the expertise of your question. Hope this helps.

Phil

Hi SeanZ,

Sorry about that. When you mention the same formula duplicated, it led
me to what I used. I just copied each page to the next month (in my
purpose) so that each new cell had the same formula. I wrote it to
calculate cumulative totals also at a glance. Glad to see that you
have found your proper answer however.

All the best, Phil
