Question ID: 397416
I would like to have the following two lists:

- All airports in the world which CURRENTLY accomodate regular civil airline
  traffic.
- All Civil Airlines which are CURRENTLY in operation.
(This would not include either defunct or newly proposed airlines)
A relevant web site would suffice to answer both questions.

 Cheers

Dear mongolia,

Every civilian airline is assigned a unique code by the International
Air Transport Association (IATA), even if it is not a member of the
IATA. The following is a complete list of IATA airline codes along
with the name of each airline, separated into four pages. Airline
codes starting with A-B are shown first. I believe this to be a
current listing, although given the large number of airlines and the
rapidity of market fluctuations, it is possible that some airlines
have recently gone bankrupt. Such isolated instances are inevitable in
a dataset of this size.

The only official source of airline designators is the IATA itself,
from which you can purchase a $235 book containing all the latest
codes. However, even this book is not guaranteed to be absolutely
up-to-date in the face of market realities. Electronic versions of
this data are more expensive yet, running at $750 for a disk and $2450
for a web download.

The IATA also assign codes to every airport in the world. However,
these codes are not unique. Of the 17576 possible codes, 323 are used
by more than one airport.

A list of all world airports, with the same proviso about market
fluctuations, is indexed according to the first letter of the IATA
code on this page.

The same list, indexed by country, is here.

If you feel that my answer is incomplete or inaccurate in any way,
please post a clarification request so that I have a chance to meet
your needs before you assign a rating.
