Dear ecalaway,

The official answer is that it is not supported. However, I believe it
can run successfully (i.e. with the same problems as later versions)
under XP. Someone even used Photoshop 5.5 and XP to benchmark a
laptop.

The specific problems to avoid or correct are detailed in the links
below:
1.	Some versions of Dell Motherboard
2.	Insufficient memory
3.	Install after upgrading to XP

[Both the Dell and memory problems were not restricted to v5.5.]

The cached page of myshipmates.com states that it works fine with XP
home.

However it unstable with XP professional (see memory note below)

Photoshop is compatiable iwth WinXP I run it. No problems but I have
heard a lot of probs with specific motherboards and RAM companies. Buy
Kingsdom (Something like that name) and you should be fine. I've been
running Kingsdom for a while now and all version of Photoshop work for
me on all my PCs
