Dear ecalaway, The official answer is that it is not supported. However, I believe it can run successfully (i.e. with the same problems as later versions) under XP. Someone even used Photoshop 5.5 and XP to benchmark a laptop. The specific problems to avoid or correct are detailed in the links below: 1. Some versions of Dell Motherboard 2. Insufficient memory 3. Install after upgrading to XP [Both the Dell and memory problems were not restricted to v5.5.] The cached page of myshipmates.com states that it works fine with XP home. ://www.google.com/search?q=cache:4nBU3ypxA0QC:www.myshipmates.net/xpsc/guestbook.asp%3Fpage%3D4+%22windows+XP%22+%22photoshop+5.5%22+compatible&hl=en&ie=UTF-8 However it unstable with XP professional (see memory note below) http://www.myshipmates.net/xpsc/guestbook.asp?action=search_results _____ Adobe general XP support is generally the same as for Windows 2000: http://www.adobe.com/products/adobesupportsXP.html _____ Adobe XP upgrade notes recommend uninstalling products before upgrading Windows. http://www.adobe.com/products/XPinstallnotes.html _____ Adobe basically says v5.5 is unsupported for 2000 http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/23dde.htm _____ General Photoshop memory management for Photoshop 5.5 advice from Photo.net (a wonderful photography resource) http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=000amV _____ A few Dell motherboards had problems, however this was not just 5.5. The problem is also described on adobes site. http://216.239.51.100/search?q=cache:CMb60JR1H54C:inquirerinside.com/11040101.htm+running+photoshop+5.5+on+windows+XP&hl=en&ie=UTF-8 ____ Regards, |

Photoshop is compatiable iwth WinXP I run it. No problems but I have heard a lot of probs with specific motherboards and RAM companies. Buy Kingsdom (Something like that name) and you should be fine. I've been running Kingsdom for a while now and all version of Photoshop work for me on all my PCs |
