From ACNielsen:

?According to an August 2004 press release by ACNielsen, there are 593
fast food shops in Hong Kong. McDonald has the biggest presence in
Hong Kong, accounting for one fifth of total store numbers, with Café
de Carol trailing as a distant second at 11% and Maxim the third at
7%. They are also the top three most popular fast food chains in Hong
Kong.

Excerpt:

?According to government statistics, fast food shops3 account for
nearly 20% of Hong Kong?s total out of home dining market.?

?While the difficult business environment over the past years has
driven some individual fast food outlets out of business, the
chain-operated outlets thrive and continue to expand,? commented Ms
Ng.

From 2001 to 2003, the number of fast food shops increased by 14% from
520 to 593 compared to the decline of the total number of fast food
shops overall.

Specifically, over the past two years we have seen a significant
increase (26%) in fast food chains serving western foods, competing
aggressively with Chinese fast food shops. Currently, western chains
have surpassed Chinese chains in terms of penetration (88% vs. 80%)
and are enjoying equal share of trade in value terms (29% vs. 30%).

Among all chains, McDonald has the biggest presence in Hong Kong,
accounting for one fifth of total store numbers, with Café de Carol
trailing as a distant second at 11% and Maxim the third at 7%. They
are also the top three most popular fast food chains in Hong Kong.?
