I would like statistics on the sale of adult bicycles around the world
for the most recent year available. The analysis should be by country
where possible, or by region / continent where not (eg. Europe by
country, perhaps Africa as a region). There are good production
statistics, but the actual sales are harder to determine and are what
is needed. |

You're right...sales data seems awfully tough to come by, and it's
even harder if you really want a break-out of "adult bicycles" without
including sales of children's bikes.
There are a few assorted pieces of info I'm coming across:
--about 100 million bikes are produced per year
--sales in Italy in 2000 for all bikes: 1,722,105
--some data for sales for all of Europe seem to be available, but I'm
not seeing this broken out by country.
I'll keep looking. But in the event that the data you are seeking are
simply not available, it would be helpful to have an idea of a "Plan
B". Are there other types of statistics (say...production of all
bicycles on a country by country or regional basis) that would meet
your needs?
Thanks.

The separation of adult from children's bicycles is not crucial. Total
sales is really the figure I'm trying to find. The production
statistics are pretty readily available, but they don't show the final
destination in the hands of consumers. So as far as Plan B, goes, a
regional total would work (eg. North America, EU, Africa, Sth America,
Asia) as a substitute. Hope this helps.
