Wealth is relative.

Anyone who is short of food or warmth, or lacks a home, or is abused ...

Would be hard pressed to be happy.

Yes, please define "wealthy." I venture that 99% of the people in the
United States are "wealthy" by international standards, and certainly
not all of them are unhappy . . .

This might be of interest:

"In 1957, the year John Galbraith was going to press with his famous
book describing us as The Affluent Society , our per person income,
expressed in today's dollars, was seventy-five hundred dollars. By
1990 it was over fifteen thousand, making us The Doubly Affluent
Society... Compared to 1957, we now have twice as many cars per
capita... and $12 billion a year worth of brand-name athletic shoes.
... We're twice as rich -- not just 20 percent richer -- yet we're no
happier . ... In fact, between 1956 and 1988, the percentage of
Americans who reported they were 'pretty well satisfied with your
present financial situation' dropped from 42 to 30 percent."
