Hi,

Charcoal has a large field of play. As the commenter below suggests,
your question before is not able to be found, so I was not certain of
your primary usage and goals for this substance. I tried to cover a
great deal of ground and give you some of the more stringent methods
of testing currently employed (since aditya2k-ga has already posted a
more general QC referance for you), as well as some other articles you
might be interested in. If these do not cover your need, please post a
clarification and I will attempt to narrow the field of search to
something more precise.

Methods of Manufacturing:

Charcoal is produced by heating wood under limited access of oxygen
... charcoal is produced commercially from primary wood-processing
residues and low quality roundwood in either kilns or continuous
furnaces; a kiln is used if the raw material is in the form of
roundwood, sawmill slabs or edgings; in the US, most kilns are
constructed of poured concrete... sawdust, shavings, or milled wood
and bark are converted to charcoal in a continuous multiple-hearth
furnace commonly referred to as a Herreshoff furnance.

Hi wjo,

Good day. Firstly, regarding your question on 6/17, it didn't
appear. Only the question on electrical engineering appeared. I
suggest that you write to google (answers-editors@google.com) and
notify them of the problem.

Coming to your question on charcoal, I've done a bit of research
and could only arrive at the following as useful, and hence the post
as a comment.

Quality control of charcoal and by-products
http://www.fao.org/docrep/X5555E/x5555e09.htm
This webpage gives a comprehensive list of the standards used in
testing charcoal, such as moisture content, ash content, volatiles and
fixed carbon and so on. This page is part of the manual on industrial
technologies for charcoal making, which comprises of 9 pages and is a
very good resource.

Cheers,
aditya2k
