Question ID: 399101
Working on a press release highlighting legal settlement claims for
individuals who have been seriously injured. Need reputable, quotable
references or resources containing information showing the difference
in settlement results (ie: dollars) between individuals represented by
an experienced law firm and those who represent themselves.

Looking for settlements related to the following practice areas:
Medical malpractice, dangerous drugs, defective products, construction
and work related injuries, birth injuries, lead poisoning, spinal cord
injuries or related areas of practice.

Also need information showing the difference in average settlement
amounts received by experienced firms who understand complex
litigation vs. general practice law firms.

It's a wonderful question - and I would like to know the answer
myself. But as a lawyer, I don't think the information you want can be
compiled to any meaningful degree from the public record. There are
too many confidential settlements, and (particularly with
unrepresented persons) settlement may occur without any lawsuit being
filed.

Insurance companies keep detailed data on their own settlements and
judgments, and would likely be able to provide a breakdown by
represented and unrepresented parties, but I doubt that you could pry
that information out of them even if you used a crowbar.

I hope I'm incorrect - this information would be fascinating to read,
and to compare with my personal impressions and beliefs.
