Hello Creamofcards

Induction into the Nashville Country Music Hall of Fame is seen by
many C&W singers as the highest accolade in their field. There have
been approximately 90 singers inducted onto this list since its
inception in 1961. Would this list be sufficient for an answer to
your question?

The full list can be seen here:
http://www.countrymusichalloffame.com/inductees

Picking a few from the list prior to 1980 would include - Hank
Williams (1961), Jim Reeves (1967), Gene Autry (1969), Patsy Cline
(1973) and Johnny Cash (1980).

will complete this question.

Hello creamofcards

Following on from my question clarification above I would add Roy
Rogers to this list. He was not inducted into the Hall of Fame
individually until 1988 (but was part of the Original Sons of the
Pioneers who were inducted in 1980) and the best part of his career
was significantly before the 1980 cut-off date.

This would make a list of six as:

Hank Williams
Jim Reeves
Gene Autry
Patsy Cline
Johnny Cash
Roy Rogers

The support for this question (as indicated in the clarification
above) is the Nashville Country Music Hall of Fame
(http://www.countrymusichalloffame.com/inductees).

Drawing the line precicely at 1980 makes it difficult. The venue was
called Western long before it was blended with country and by 1980
most of the Western was gone from the mainsteam. Big money skewed the
venue from perhaps 1945 to present. Some of the early greats were Gene
Autry, Roy Rogers, Hank Snow and Eanest Tubb. A bit later came Loretta
Linn, Eddie Arnold, Rosmary Clooney, Tammy Wynette. Elvis Preistly was
mostly country early in his career. For a few years country and
popular were difficult to separate. Neil
