Can you help us help you by giving us some additional information to
work with, Clyde?

By "retrieve an image" what exactly are you referring to? Accessing a
image file from within a program? Clicking on an image icon in Windows
Explorer? The HP 1000 Photo Smart is a printer. Are you trying to
print images from the Internet? When specifically do you receive this
error message?

The Twain interface is used mostly for scanning analog images (photos,
drawings, etc.) into digital format.

What operating system are you running? Windows 98? 98SE? Me? XP? 2000?

By what connection (serial, USB, parallel) are you trying to retrive the image?

So, have you managed to load images at all or does it complain only
occasionally? Twain driver is needed to load images from a source like
digital cameras, scanners etc. to your computer. It's kind of USB user
interface which is able to load images and then send them to specified
program. If you tryin to get images from some source, you'll need
twain drivers. I think you got them from HP homepages at http://hp.com
Btw. I understood hp 1000 photosmart is a printer? Where are you
acquiring your images anyway? And final remainder. Windows NT and (was
it?) ME doesn't have USB support, so they are not capable of receiving
data thru it.

Yours, To0d

Hello clyde-ga
I believe the answer to be:
1. Ensure your cables have good and firm connection between laptop and
scanner (or check sockets for damage)
2. Switch on your scanner FIRST (allow it to fully 'boot up'), then
switch your laptop on (not the other way around)

most scanners or digital caremas support twain protocol, by twain, you
can directly get the image from your image software(e.g., photoshop),
the error message looks like you don't have twain-compliant image
devices, hope this helps!
