I was using the beginning of the XP Home cd to see if I could get some
recognition of a hard drive that I later determined was doa and exited
at the point just before partioning the drive is done. Well this left
a change in my boot ini. that gives me this obligation to choose XP or
it will boot to the XP set up on start up. How do I get rid of this?

Hi there,

Fortunately, this is pretty easy to get rid of. Here's a step-by-step
guide:

First, right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop and click
on Properties at the bottom of the list. This opens up the System
Properties control panel. (Other ways to open this include clicking on
the System icon in the Control Panel folder, or press Win+Pause/Break)

Once there click the advanced tab and click the Settings button under
the Starup and Recovery section.

From the Default operating system dropdown list you should have two
options including XP itself and the XP setup program. Change this from
Microsoft Windows XP Setup to Microsoft Windows XP Home.

(Optionally, you can manually edit your boot.ini file and delete the
offending entry once and for all by clicking the Edit button from this
screen and deleting the line for XP setup)

Finally, clear the checkbox for Time to display list of operating
systems, which should get rid of the startup screen you're getting.
Click Okay twice and your done!

Hope that takes care of your problem!
