You can keep them away from your home with the use of pigs. I am completely serious. Pigs hate rattlesnakes and will kill them on site. The rattlesnakes cannot bite through the tough hide of the pigs. |

From that pdf link: "Some have claimed that rattlesnakes benefit ranchers by the number of rodents they eat, but current predator-prey theory dis-counts this. It is very doubtful that snakes have much effect on the density of rodents." "Hogs do not provide practical protection around a homestead." They said "homestead," not mine, but they also said that rattlesnakes don't control rodents? That contradicts every other site I can find. an anti-snake roundup site: http://www.tinygiants.com/new/caresheets/nerd/roundup.htm http://www.pestproducts.com/rattlesnakes.htm http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry/wildlife/rattlesnakes.aspx http://sites.state.pa.us/PA_Exec/Fish_Boat/endngre.htm the massasaugua rattlesnake is endangered, and the timber rattlesnake is on the candidate list. |
