kenm0re --
I am confident that you are referring to the plant that is more
commonly called "tumbleweed." "Wind witch," along with "Russian
thistle," are the other names most often applied to this weed, which
is a "symbol of the American West."
Here is a link to a website that contains very interesting information
about the plant:
Desert USA: Tumbleweed

Search Strategy:
A Google search using the term "wind witch" returns many irrelevant
"hits," so I used more focused searches to find your answer. This
successful one was designed to eliminate multiple references to
irrelevant information that was returned in other searches and to
further narrow the search by including the term "west":
"wind witch" -adapted -dexter west
://www.google.com/search?q=%22wind+witch%22+-adapted+-dexter+west&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8
I am confident that this is the information you are looking for, and I
was happy to be able to provide it to you promptly. If anything is
unclear, or in the event (unlikely, I think) that this is not the
answer you were seeking, please post a "request for clarification" and
I will assist you further.
