Hi mdpa173-ga,

Oh, how fun it is to obesess over a good trim line when you paint. I'm
the same way as you. Here are some of my tips to help you out.

First, put down painters tape as carefully as you can, making sure the
surface you put the tape on is clean and dust free.

Here is an example of painters tape.

Google Search
painters tape

Then paint the room as you normally would, using a 2 inch sash brush for the trim.

Here is a good sash brush

Google Search
paint brushes

Then, after letting the paint dry for 24 hours and removing the tape.
Use an trim guide and a small paint brush to touch up any spaces you
want or need to.

That's how I get my great edges where wall meets wall, wall meets
ceiling, or wall meets baseboards/moldings.

clarification before rating it, and I'll be happy to look into this
further.

3M painters tape. Seal the edge with your finger.

I wouldn't paint with tape, it might leave a sticky residue, try a brush ;-)

If you use painter tape it will not be a problem. Try it, you'll like it.

Hi Mdpa173,

And I thought that I was the only one alive who had OCD when it comes
to painting! :) It just has to be right doesn't it, else the uneven
bits haunt our dreams and challenge our idealogies of perfection. I
bet we both relate to Jack Nicholson in "As good as it get's" or
Dustin Hoffman in "Rainman".

OK, you say you have used gadgets. I have had success with a paint
pad. It's square, with wheels on one side. Maybe designed by the 3M
company. Trick is this: don't rush and don't put too much paint on the
pad. It works.

Alternatively, if all else fails, use ceiling paint on all walls, same
colour. If that doesn't grab ya, then try the Rowan Atkinson art of
painting. Close all doors, place a stick of lit dynamite in an open
tin of paint .. count to 5 .. perfect covering. Make sure you are on
the outside of the closed door.

Or .. roughly paint the corners then nail timber or plastic quad over
each wall joining.
