There are a few different options here: - Internal hard drive. This would probably be the cheapest hardware method. And it is quite simple as well if you are comfortable opening up your computer. You can probably find an old hard drive (2000 songs is probably around 6 GB, so a 6-7 GB hard drive should suffice) at your local mom-and-pop computer store or on EBay for ~$30 dollars. Make sure that your new and old computer have the same hard drive interface (IDE is a common type) and that the hard drive you buy uses this interface. - External USB hard drive. This is the easiest hardware method. However, external hard drives are much more expensive than internal hard drives. The benefit is that you don't have to worry about opening up your computer and a USB hard drive will work with any computer with USB (don't have to worry about IDE vs SCSI vs ATA). These will run you at least 60 bucks. http://www.saucertek.com/browse_item_details.asp/Item_ID/432 - Network your two computers together. If both of the computers have NIC cards (the port looks like an oversized telephone port), then you can just purchase a "crossover cable" from Radio Shack http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=278-2011 and you'd be set. You then simply copy and paste your files from your old computer to your new one over the P2P network. There are many usergroups and websites that talk about how to do this. Hopefully one of these methods or the software listed in the other user's comments will work. Good luck! zebov |
