mithin,

This definitely sounds like the Good Stuff.

Premium duty-free items like Wild Turkey "Stampede" are hard to track
down, particularly when they are not domestic products. While I hoped
to find a specific duty-free shop that carried it, this can be quite
difficult since a shop's Web page (if they have one) doesn't
necessarily show everything they have in stock. Another problem is
that several Wild Turkey brands may be carried by duty-free shops.

A Google search on the terms 'duty-free "wild turkey"' gives you over
200 results, many of which are duty-free shops. Clearly, contacting
each of these shops is an unrealistic prospect. If you try to narrow
things down with a subsequent search on the terms 'duty-free "wild
turkey" stampede', you only get 3 results, none of which are duty-free
shops.

The next best alternative is to find credible sources of information
that can lead you directly to the product, and I have done this as
explained below.

Please examine these sources and let me know if this is your Answer.

Thank you,
huntsman

Contact the Manufacturer -

One sure way to find Stampede is to ask the manufacturer.

The Wild Turkey brand, and its distillery, Austin Nichols Distilling
Company, are owned by Pernod Ricard (the d's are silent, so it is
pronounced "pear-no re-car"), a leading global distributor of spirits
and wines headquartered in Paris, France:

Pernod Ricard
http://www.pernod-ricard.com/

Page from 2001 Annual Report
http://www.pernod-ricard.com/pdf_rapport/site_01/spirits/fst_spi_frame_whiskies.htm

"The [Pernod-Ricard] Group also owns the world’s best-selling premium
bourbon, Wild Turkey, which has been produced in Kentucky for over two
hundred years. This indigenous American whiskey is aged in heavy-char
new white oak barrels for eight years to give it its distinctive
flavour and russet colour. Its leading markets are the United States,
Japan and Australia."

Pernod Ricard has an office in the United States:

   Pernod Ricard USA
   777 Westchester Avenue
   White Plains, NY 10604
   Tel: 1-914-539-4500
   Fax: 1-914-539 4777
   Email [online form]:
   http://www.pernod-ricard-usa.com/contact_us.html
   Web: http://www.pernod-ricard-usa.com/

I called this office to inquire about duty-free purchases. I was told
to speak to the following expert, but she is currently out of the
office for several days:

   Katia Lambey
   Tel: 1-914-539-4771
   Email: klambey@pernod-ricard-usa.com

Since you are the actual purchaser, it will be more appropriate if you
were to leave a phone or email message with her. I think she will be
your primary source of information for the "Stampede" and "Rare Breed"
brands.

All Wild Turkey bourbons are made in the United States by the
following distillery:

   Austin Nichols Distilling Co.
   1525 Tyrone Road
   Lawrenceburg, KY 40342
   Tel: 1-800-455-5585, 1-502-839-4544
   Fax: 1-502-839-3902
   Email: info@wildturkeybourbon.com
   Web: http://www.wildturkeybourbon.com

I also called the distillery. They confirmed that "Stampede" is an
export-only, duty-free product and not sold within the United States.
Hoping to stay with English-speaking countries, I asked who their
duty-free distributor is for the United Kingdom. This was their reply:

   World Brands Duty Free
   Middlesex, England
   Tel: 011-44-20-8538-4567
   Fax: 011-44-20-8538-4547

"World Brands Duty Free" (WBDF) is the duty-free sales and marketing
portion of Pernod Ricard's global organization. As far as I can tell,
WBDF is run out of the British office. Here is their contact
information (from Pernod Ricard's Web page):

   Pernod Ricard United Kingdom
   8-10 Lampton Road
   Hounslow, MIDDLESEX
   TW3 1JL United Kingdom
   Tel: 011-44-20-8538-4000

If you cannot find out anything through Pernod Ricard's USA office,
you may want to contact the United Kingdom office instead.

There is also a Pernod Ricard office in Canada:

   Pernod Ricard Canada
   4878 Levy, Suite 200
   St Laurent, Québec
   H4R2P1 Canada
   Tel: 1-514-337-4388

As far as the "Rare Breed" brand is concerned, the Wild Turkey
distillery said that it *is* distributed domestically within the
United States. If you are indeed in Virginia, they suggested that you
look in the state-run "ABC Liquor Stores".

You can search for ABC stores in the Richmond area here:

Bourbon Connoisseurs -

I found one article in which other bourbon aficionados have found Wild
Turkey "Stampede" at international duty-free shops:

Wine Enthusiast Magazine
"Duty-Free Booty" - May 2001
http://www.wineenthusiastmag.com/ISSUES/MAY01/proof_positive.cfm

"Wild Turkey always issues great whiskeys, and indeed, we often pick
up a bottle of their 8-year-old Bourbon in duty-free when traveling to
Europe, but they have another bottling that’s not available in the
U.S. that’s worth grabbing on your duty-free travels: Wild Turkey
Stampede. It’s a little pricey at about $45 for a 500-ml bottle, but
what a treat!"

The article offers many buying tips and mentions "BAA plc" (a British
operator of duty-free shops in the U.K. and the U.S.A.) as a possible
source. BAA is one of the world's foremost airport retailers. Here is
their contact information:

   BAA plc
   130 Wilton Road
   London SW1V 1LQ United Kingdom
   Tel: 011-44(0)20-7834-9449
   Fax: 011-44(0)20-7932-6699
   Email: n/a
   Web: http://www.baa.co.uk

To make general inquiries about their duty-free products and shopping
services, you can also call BAA at:

   Tel: 011-44(0)12-1410-5105

BAA has two types of airport liquor shops. At Heathrow Airport in
London, BAA's various restaurant, travel and shopping services fall
under the "Airside" name. You can see an Airside directory here:

   BAA Heathrow Directory
   http://www.baa.co.uk/airzone3/heathrow/directory_frame.html

The "Connoisseur Corner" tab at the top of this page has a "Whisky"
drop-down menu. If you click on "Whisky", a series of frames are
available containing the following (edited) list of their Heathrow
shops:

there.

All that research looks good Ill follow up on the phone numbers and
see if I can find someone to sell me some bottles(If I do ill award
the question to the researcher). However no one has yet to answer my
question. I want to know who(person/dealer/website) I can purchase
Wild Turkey Bourbon "Stampede" from. As for Wild Turkey "Rare Breed" I
can walk to the local liqour store and purchase it I was just looking
for older bottles of as they changed thier recipe after the first few
years of production. My Main question and that still is unanswered is
WHO can I purchase Wild Turkey "Stampede" from?<keep in mind I live in
Virginia USA>

I did an extensive research but I have to say that either I wasn´t
lucky or that you won´t be able to get this Bourbon outside a duty
free shop.
Maybe another researcher will be more lucky.
Sorry.

Hey there... As far as the Rare Breed goes, don't spend too much time
looking for an old bottle of the stuff. Whiskey doesn't age in the
bottle. So an old bottle isn't any different than a new one. Except
for the dust.

And it can't be that hard to find a bottle of the new stuff. We're
sitting on an entire case of the stuff at my job.
http://www.martinwinecellar.com/ (I think that's right.) in New
Orleans. The date on the case is 10-06-01.

It's about 37 dollars for a fifth.
