I interviewed with a company in Broomfield CO last week. The job
looked good but I am undecided on CO.

First, I could not find any nightlife outside of Boulder (all
surrounding areas appear to be bedroom communities), and Denver
is too far away. So I would probably live in Boulder. However there
seemed to be a lot more guys than girls when I was walking around at
night. I guess an outdoors type of city may attract more guys than
women. Is this your experience as well..Fyi, I am 32yrs old and used
to quite active nightlife living in the beach area of San Diego.

Also, more worrisome I had a lot of problems with the dry air in
Boulder(I visited for 4 days in Sept.). I would assume it only gets
worse in the winter. And I developed a sinus headache. Not sure if
this is from the dust, altitude, lack of humidity or what. So I am a little
worried this might turn into a long term problem if I relocate (do
other people have problems with the climate and how do they cope with
them, or does your body typically adjust without external
intervention?)

Other than that Boulder was very pretty, and the people were very nice
and friendly.

If you have lived in Boulder, or visited on an extended trip, I would
apprciated your advice.

thanks.!!

Hi Denco,

Thanks for the reply. Yes my hotel was actually in Westminster (the
doubletree next to 36). And my associate has a home in Westminster.
However driving around that area, near the hotel, I could only see
track homes and chain restaurants.

I am more interested in a 1 BR apartment or condo. Also, I am
vegitarian and take yoga classes regularly and I did not see any
options for either in Westminster, although I may have missed them.
So, I am not a college student or liberal, but Boulder at least did
provide these options..

Could you tell me if westminster has any options for a single person,
who only needs a small living area ? Also, is there a downtown
section, or someplace to meet people (I really don't like malls
though). And Northglenn would be very close to my office, how does
it compare with Westminster. I wish I visited this town during my
trip..

Finally, I am assuming driving into denver will not be much traffic
after say 7pm, is this a safe assumption. Also, I am not too sure
where the section with the bars are in, although I did drive by the
baseball stadium and saw quite a few people. Is parking
tough/expensive in the evening ? Do many folks in Denver actually
live downtown ? I'm not sure if I would like the commute though from
Broomfield to Denver..

thanks in advance.

Howdy Dave,

Here is all of it as an answer for you.

Having lived in Denver for over 20 years, I can give you some educated
feedback, and if it is sufficient, you can accept it as an answer.

I am not a doctor, so this should not considered as medical advice.

Because of the initial reaction to the altitude and relative lack of
humidity, it is not unusual for people to experience sinus headaches,
etc. For most people, the period of acclimation is not long, perhaps
a few weeks at most. Drinking lots of water and avoiding alcohol at
first helps immensely.

I would suggest that you not (at first) get a place in Boulder. It is
a younger college type crowd, liberal for the most part. Go for a place
in Northglenn or Westminster. There are several clubs in the Northwest
Denver area (such as Westminster) and it is not really all that far to
downtown Denver (or Glendale) come night.

It's the commute from Boulder to Broomfield that you do not want to endure
on a daily basis. It can be pretty bad. Boulder is pricey as well.

Westminster and Northglenn both have plenty of apartment complexes, condos
as well as townhouses for rent.

The downtown area is easy to get to in the evening as the traffic is going
the opposite direction. The lower downtown area (LoDo) is the "happening"
place, full of clubs, brewpubs, restaurants, etc. This is in the area near
and heads downtown from the ballpark (Coors Field) and parking is not that
pricey at the lots or on the street.

Quite a few people live downtown in revamped loft spaces. Compared to
San Diego it is not that expensive. After you got used to things, a move
to LoDo might not be a bad idea. Right in the middle of the action and
the commute to work wouldn't be horrendous as it would be the opposite of
the usual commute pattern.

Here are some vegetarian/Indian (which I have found to be a good source of
vegetarian dishes) restaurants, yoga, night spots and apartment resources in
the Northwest Denver metro area.

weekend or evening basis, so you could sample the clubs and restaurants
there as well.
