Hi healthnut312,

What a sticky situation! There are several things you can try,
but...My research seems to indicate a haircut will be the most
effective way to deal with superglue in the hair. This will, of course
depend on the amount of glue in the hair, and the location of the
glued hair.

Before getting a buzz cut, you can try the following suggestions:

Acetone(nail polish remover), taking care to keep it out of the eyes.
I would use a gauze pad dampened with the acetone, and drag the gauze
down the hair.

According to Hair News, natural scalp oils will remove some of the
glue, probably depending on the amount.
?The child's natural scalp oils will come to the surface in no time at
all and loosen the super glue all by itself. Then take the child to
the nearest salon and they can cut whatever glue is left in the hair
away. Be sure to call the salon first and warn them you are coming so
that they can get all of the laughing out of their system before you
show up with the child. He doesn't need anymore ego bashing today.?

?Some hardware stores will also have a special glue remover that can
be used on hair and skin. Always test a very small part of the area
with the remover before going full blast with the removal process.
Some removers may be harsh for hair and should be used very
carefully.?

This site describes removing super glue with a hair dryer. Note: This
site is referring to removing the glue from a guitar, not hair! But it
MAY work, just don?t use the hair dryer with the acetone!

?Discover the remarkable power of Super Glue. Discover that your
child has Super Glued his hands to his head. Call the pediatrician.
Once the pediatrician stops laughing, write down his instructions.
Hang up and plan to change pediatricians soon. Proceed with his
instructions.
Take a pair of scissors and cut your child's hands free of his head.
Pour nail polish remover into a rag and begin removing the hair from
your child's hands. Once this is done, notice the awful haircut your
child now has. Some spots are virtually untouched while other spots
are scalped. Break into tears as you try to figure out your next
course of action.?

?I received their glue removal, after I called to request it. The glue
removal did nothing to release the hairpiece. I went to a salon where
they took an hour to gently remove the hairpiece without pulling out
the hair underneath. Once the piece was off, there was a strip of glue
1/2" around the perimeter of my head that was connected to my original
hair. The salonist had to cut the thick glue out and then give me a
buzz cut to get all the adhesive out.?

The first answer is best: Get a haircut.

Put it this way: You've already created a mess by introducing one
foreign substance into your hair. If your solution is to try throwing
some others into the mix...well, you probably deserve whatever
happens.

Good luck.

Hi healthnut312,

When you posted the question I did some preliminary research for the
answer. I found the same information crabcakes listed for you.

I think your best option is to use heat (hair drier) because there
will be no toxicity involved with chemicals on your scalp.

You might try oiling your scalp as generally natural oils will also
help to loosen the glue. Plain old vegetable oil will work nicely.
Put a plastic bag over the hair to keep the heat in. Then use a hair
drier along the glued areas.

Be gentle when and if you use any glue remover products.

I don't know if this is the case of a child fooling around with super
glue, or an adult trying to glue on a hairpiece. In either case, this
is not an unusual situation... there's a lot of information on the web
regarding this sticky icky!

Best of luck to you,
tlspiegel
