Question ID: 400935
After upgrading to Windows XP SP 2 ( in which I received the updated
IE 6 browser in question), I received the following pop-up error when
I land on a particular web page.

"Problems with this Web page might prevent it from being displayed
properly or functioning properly. In the future, you can display this
message by double-clicking the warning icon displayed in the status
bar."

When I click on the warning icon, I see the following display:
Line: 1
Char: 1
Error: Permission denied
Code: 0
URL: https:// <web site>.jsp

Would like an answer detailing:
1) Source of Error
2) Web sites which list steps to correct it and/or
3) The proper browser security (customized) settings to avoid this error.

Thanks,

Hi, hummer,
By particual web site I meant these financial sites containing info
generic to that company (quotes, data, etc.) ...I don't have a
particual url. I merely made a mental note of the error
experienced....
thanks

Have you checked the IE configuration, it appears to be a problem
related to the Enable/Disable Java on visited web pages.

See "How to Enable Java and JavaScript on your Computer":
http://www.endlessmusic.com/help/enable_java.html

Let me know how this advice works in order to post it in the answer
box or to continue the research.

Thank you.

livioflores-
the solution worked (I didn't have to goto the link, but I will
later). The solution removed the MSIE's own pop-up error box and the
data was retrieved without incident.

I had to bring my Java permission down to "Low Safety"....I had also
set up "Scripting" to all "Enable" (but I do not think this made any
difference).

Because the parameters of my originial question didn't include
security issues, I'd be willing to compensate for additional
consideration in your answer of security issues related to your
solution: ie: setting browser settings with Java permissions in the
"Low Safety" Zone and Enabling Scripting.

thanks for answering my question.

Hi profitsee!!

Thank you for giving me the chance to answer your question.

To make it official I will repost the solution to your problem:

To get rid from the error popup you must Enable Java.
See "How to Enable Java and JavaScript on your Computer" for detailed instructions:
http://www.endlessmusic.com/help/enable_java.html

Regarding to the security issues, the common advice is to use a good
firewall, an updated antivirus and a proper security configuration for
IE.

I guess that you have installed an antivirus in your computer, the
advice here is to keep it updated and running.

Free anti-virus software:
AVG Anti-virus
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/

avast! 4 Home
http://www.avast.com/eng/down_home.html

Firewall is something that a lot of people does not use. There are
several free choices, the better two are:
Zone Alarm:
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp

Kerio Personal Firewall:
I use this one, and it works perfectly.
http://www.kerio.com/kpf_download.html

See the manual:
Use it only if you need it, it is large but complete.

The following article will help you to understand the security
configuration of your IE:

Finally to improve your security to higher ranks you can use The
Proxomitron (I strongly suggest you to use it), a free, highly
flexible, user-configurable, small but very powerful, local HTTP
web-filtering proxy. This means that any and all content must pass
through Proxomitron's filtering rules before it ever reaches your
browser. Proxomitron will help eliminate annoying pop-ups and banner
ads without lower the browser speed.
Download it here:

"The Proxomitron - An Introduction":

"Proxomitron.Info ":
Proxomitron.Info was established to provide information and resources
for the Proxomitron.

----------------------------------------------------------

I hope that this helps you.
Feel free for request for further assistance and/or explanations in
any topic on this answer and if you need help with one of the
suggested programs. I will gladly respond to your requests.
