Could you please tell me what the city sales tax rates (as a
percentage of the purchase price) are in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago,
Dallas, Detroit, Houston, New York City, Los Angeles, Philadelphia,
San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. For example, I think that it's
8-1/2% in New York City, right?  Also, I think there may be a
variation in Boston where clothing purchases under a certain amount
are exempt from any sales tax.  Thanks.

The following are the city sales tax for the cities you require.
Please note that there are sometimes conflicts in the numbers you
would find on the internet. However after much comparison, I have
compiled this list as accurately as possible.


Atlanta - 6% 
Boston - 5% (does not apply to food, prescription drugs, newspapers,
or clothing costing less than $175)
Chicago - 8.75%
Dallas - 8.25%
Detroit - 2%
Houston - 8.25%
New York City - 8.25% (not added to clothing and footwear items under $110)
Los Angeles -  8.25% 
Philadelphia - 7% (except for clothing)
San Francisco - 8.5%
Washington, D.C. - 5.75%

The sales tax data on NYC is outdated.  The current rate is 8.625%
(all rates in NYS are found here:
http://www.tax.state.ny.us/pdf/publications/Sales/pub718_504.pdf). 
The exemption on clothing and shoes applies during a few select weeks
only (such as the week before school reopens).
