I?m interested in AACSB Accredited PhD program in Accounting or
Business Administration with concentration on accounting in any U.S university.

I'm not interested in top business schools ,I'm looking for an average
PhD program in Accounting or Business (with accounting
concentration)that accept average GMAT score ( score around 500).

I will highly appreciate if you could please provide me with a list of
U.S AASCB accredited universities that have a phd in accounting or
business(with accounting concentration) and accept average GMAT score
(GMAT score around 500).

Dear phdseeker,

I found a complete list of all 466 AACSB-accredited schools at the
following address, but it doesn't include any mention of the programs
they offer or of typical entering GMAT scores.

McBane's List of AACSB International Accredited Business Schools Online
http://mkt.cba.cmich.edu/aacsbmkt/alphlist.htm

I also consulted the Business Week annual survey of U.S.-based
business schools. This authoritative, longstanding survey covers 212
business schools, all of them located in the U.S. and all accredited
by the AACSB. Business Week's description implies that the
AACSB-accredited schools left out of this survey are those that are
not located in the U.S. or that do not serve a majority full-time
student population.

Business Week Online: Business Schools
http://www.businessweek.com/bschools/99/index.htm

Although Business Week conveniently lists schools in each of the seven
geographical regions -- Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Southeast,
Southwest, West, Northwest -- and gives GMAT ranges for each one, they
do not provide details on the PhD programs available at each. It seems
that they are targeting their survey squarely at MBA candidates.

Fortunately, I did manage to locate a site that returns exactly the
results you need to know in your situation. The site, called All
Business Schools, claims to base its classification on the complete
list of AACSB-accredited schools as well as some additional ones.

All Business Schools: Find a School
http://www.allbusinessschools.com/find/

You can use the web form at the above address to initiate a search
yourself, but I have gone ahead and compiled a list of results using
your criteria. What I did was the following. For the Location field, I
selected "Any Location", and for Type, I chose "PhD". When it came to
Average GMAT Score, I searched in the categories "500-550" and "below
500". Then, from the resulting selection of schools, I excluded those
that do not have AACSB accreditation or that do not include a PhD in
Accounting or Business Administration. I did include those that are
listed as offering a PhD without naming any specific PhD field. In
some cases, the All Business Schools entry does not show the AACSB
accreditation, but I was able to determine by cross-referencing with
the McBane's list, cited above, that the school was in fact so
accredited.

There are few AACSB-accredited PhD programs in Accounting, which is
perhaps to be expected given the research-oriented nature of doctoral
studies and the quite thoroughly explored field of accounting.
Although you didn't ask for schools offering a Master's degree in
Accounting, I included these for your additional consideration. I did
not find any PhDs in Business Administration listed specifically as
allowing a concentration in Accounting, but I imagine that in most
cases, you will be able to work this out with your PhD supervisor. I
believe that by choosing an accounting topic for your doctoral
dissertation, you are de facto concentrating in accounting. Now here
are my findings, including a link to the All Business Schools entry
for each school.

To summarize, the following schools offer a PhD in Accounting.

Kent State University - Graduate School of Management
Virginia Commonwealth University - School of Business

These offer Master's degrees in Accounting.

Cleveland State University - James J. Nance College of Business
The University of Toledo - College of Business Administration
The University of Texas at Arlington - College of Business Administration
Old Dominion University - College of Business and Public Administration
University of Texas - El Paso

And the remaining two offer just a PhD in Business Administration or
an unspecified PhD.

Florida Atlantic University - College of Business
Mississippi State University - College of Business and Industry

All of these schools have average entering GMAT scores close to 500.

If you feel that my answer is incomplete or inaccurate in any way, please
post a clarification request so that I have a chance to meet your needs
before you assign a rating.

Thank you very much.

There are about 80 phd programs in accounting in USA .The problem with
the site you provided me with is it mentioned only few univerities
that have participated with the site and omitted many others.

what I really looking for is a comprehenise list of accounting PhD
program and their average GMAT.

thank you

No, the site does return results based on all AACSB-accredited
schools. And as I mentioned, I was able to cross-check these results
against a master list of all AACSB-accredited schools.

I don't know where you're getting the figure of 80 PhD Accounting
programs, but the above list is shorter because (a) I have excluded
non-AACSB-accredited schools and (b) I have listed only those schools
with an average entering GMAT score near 500, as you requested. If you
want to see more schools, I can expand the search to those that have
average entering GMAT scores in the range 550-600 and higher. Would
you like me to do so?

I also wish to respectfully bring to your attention that you posted a
question asking for "a list of U.S AASCB accredited universities that
have a phd in accounting or business(with accounting concentration)
and accept average GMAT score (GMAT score around 500)" and not "a
comprehenise list of accounting PhD
program and their average GMAT". The latter is a different question
that would require a different effort to answer.
