Question ID: 401730
I am interested in finding a room to rent (hourly-for a class) on a
weekly basis that is located within a 10 mile radius of Palo
Alto/Mountain View, Ca. I'm looking to pay in the neighborhood of
$30/hr. I had no problem back East renting rooms from churches, but
in California I keep hearing from churches that they can't rent to me
because I am not a nonprofit.

The room I want to rent will be for self-help classes for adults, who
will be charged a fee for the classes. I have tried schools and
community centers, but have had no luck finding something within my
price range.

Hello czh,

I called the Network Access Program and found out that the private
offices they are renting for $10/hr are designed for one person and
can hold at most three people. They rent out conference rooms that
can hold 4-5 people for $63/hr, and conference rooms that can hold
10-14 people for $75/hr, so unfortunately they are beyond the my price
range.

Again, thanks for the leads.

Hello colsen-ga,

Welcome to the Bay Area. I think you?ll have to do lots of digging but
you should be able to find an appropriate rental for your classes. I
suggest that you browse Craig?s List and maybe even post your quest
there. I also recommend that you check the bulletin boards at Kepler?s
Bookstore in Menlo Park. They frequently have ads for shared
workshop/studio space. Finally, pick up the local throw-away papers
and see what they offer. The organizations advertising classes and
workshops might be worth contacting to see if they would rent space to
you. Let me know if this is sufficient information to qualify as an
official answer.

Good luck.

Hello czh,

Thank you very much for your detailed answer. I will contact the
Network Access Program. I see it says their private office rates are
$10/hour. If these offices are big enough to hold a class (of eight
people), then you have definitely answered my question. If not, I
will ask them what their rate is for conference rooms. If their rate
is $30, or less, again you have answered the question. In any case,
you've given me some good leads!

This is my first time asking a question. I assume the protocol is to
respond to you by posting a comment?
