Since no researcher seems to have jumped on this, I can provide a little bit of info. Movie is scheduled to start filming in February, 2005. I don't know, but perhaps you can find out from Mel Brooks production office. Number and address are listed: BROOKSFILMS c/o Culver Studios 9336 W. Washington Blvd. Culver City, CA 90232 Phone: 310 202 3292 Fax: 310 202 3225 |

According to an entertainment subscription service, the production will gear up in February 2005 as Cryptica mentioned. They are aiming for a December 21, 2005 release. "The Producers" will likely shoot in Los Angeles, considering the currently attached talent who reside in LA. However, this film is still in active development - preproduction has not yet begun and locations have not been set. I hope this helps! Jason -- Actually, Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane and Nicole Kidman all live in NY. (She has several homes, though). Probably Roger Bart & Gary Beach do, too. |

Update: as reported by the Associated Press today: Mel Brooks said Tuesday that he will shoot the film version of his hit Broadway musical "The Producers" at a new movie studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. City and state officials hailed the announcement as a sign that the recently opened Steiner Studios was succeeding in its quest to draw more film production to New York. City officials have bemoaned the loss of film and television production work to the West Coast and Canada, where studio space is more plentiful and production costs are often lower. "The Producers: The Movie Musical" is a $45 million production to star Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell. It begins shooting in late February, Brooks said. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Gov. George Pataki credited new state and local tax credit programs with attracting Brooks' film to New York. Brooks, a Brooklyn native, shot the 1968 film original "The Producers" in the city. He said at a press conference at Steiner Studios on Tuesday that the new incentives and his love of New York helped persuade him to shoot in New York. Then he focused on another reason. "The bagels, just the bagels alone," Brooks said. "You go to Toronto, they're mushy." Steiner Studios is the largest such facility on the East Coast. It is the centerpiece of the city's efforts to revitalize the Navy Yard, a World War II shipbuilding hub that had lapsed into disrepair. Another five films are expected to be shot there in the near future, a Steiner official said, although they have yet to be publicly announced. |
