Dear Bryan,

It is difficult - nay, impossible - for me to resist the temptation to
post an **Official Answer** to this, now that the go-ahead for Offical
Answerage has been issued. As a British gent once observed, I can
resist everything except temptation.

As I often do when I am attempting to answer an essentially
unanswerable question while trying to give my customer his money's
worth, I turn to versification. I may not be the Bard of Avon, but I
am known for my satirical creations, so perhaps I am a Mockingbard.

Kerry or Bush? John Eff or George Dublya?
Whom to choose? Don't let it troublya.
I have the cure for election fidgets:
Elect the guy with the fewest digits.
A four-fingered hand won't lead us astray.
Turn on, toon in! Mickey Mouse today!

Mickey has been a perennial write-in candidate, but now his hour has
come round at last, and he is slouching toward the White House (or, if
not slouching, then skipping while whistling a merry tune, which the
biased media will gleefully report as slouching).

To those who may think that Mickey Mouse is reluctant to run, I direct
their attention to this souvenir pin for sale at Walt Disney World. If
this is not an obvious sales ploy for a Mickey/Goofy ticket, then I'm
Petunia Pig:

The only thing about Mr. Mouse that I find troubling is that he is
known to have powerful relatives in Florida. The last time we elected
someone like that, all hell broke loose.

Very best regards from across the pond.

I have thought of some campaign slogans for the Presidential Rodent...

MICKEY: THE BEST CHOICE FOR THE BIG CHEESE.

NO TO ELECTIONEERING! YES TO MOUSKETEERING!

HEY, WHAT KIND OF MICKEY MOUSE ELECTION IS THIS??!!

TIRED OF ONE RAT AFTER ANOTHER IN THE WHITE HOUSE? PICK MICK.

And, in reference to Mickey & Minnie as a team:

FOUR MORE EARS!

Brilliant as always, Oink (Why did I write Oink? You know what I meant to write.)

And a versification as well.

I am sure that Mick the Mouse would get elected if he were to stand ...

And that he would do a damn fine job!

Wow ... I've just had an idea for a new play ...

Should you post an acknowledgement for the 25 Stars that I shall send
you (system permitting) please report latest score in the Oink Zoo, by
species.

Many thanks!

Bryan

This may be the year when all those write-in votes for Mickey Mouse finally pay off.

Maybe he means Tim Curry...that would be entertaining at least.

Of course this question will expire before it can be answered.

I think it's a pretty good bet to say that the next President of the
United States will be a rich white male. Of course, that still
includes Mickey Mouse as a possibility.

Actually that's J.F.K. I believe, but I'm the campaign manager for Jack
see www.jackforpresident.com.

Personally I feel that Jack is the most worthy candidate and you can
always trust what he says even if he does speak the same language as
most of the people in Washington.

His only real opponent is www.geekforpresident.com

(Closet former Washington-based reporter.)

It matters because there is leadership and inability to lead. The
country needs a good leader...since Johy Kerry (is that who you mean)
is not a good leader we only have the option of George Bush who is a
damn good leader and pulls together talented people who are carrying
off monumental feats around the world to protect, preserve and defend
liberty and freedom for United States citizens and ultimately the
whole planet.

This is SO disappointing ...

I have grown accustomed to the very best analysis on such matters but
what do I get .... ??

OK so I got Mr Curry's name wrong. Sorry!

I never realised that he was called Johy Curry - but Hell! - I'm not a
native of the Colonies ... just an interested observer.

I think I can now see why King George cried 'Enough' let them get on
with their Coca Cola and Kraft cheeses ... and their Boston Instant
Coffee (caffeine free) Tupperware Party or whatever.

I think your second question is much more interesting:

"DOES IT MATTER?"

Acording to a recent poll it not only seems to matter who is elected
President THIS TIME, but more people say they believe it matters more
this time than ever before:

"More than in other presidential election years, voters see a lot at
stake in the 2004 election: 82% think it does matter who is elected
president, and only 17% believe things go on as usual no matter who is
elected. In fact, the percentage who disagree that it makes no
difference who is elected president is the highest it has been since
CBS News began asking the question nearly thirty years ago."

"More than eight in ten Democrats and Republicans say it makes a
difference who is elected."

I keep thinking that in some parallel universe, the lucky voters are
getting to choose between John McCain and Joe Lieberman. Sigh.

Right on Pink, but as I learned on Google from GAT researchers, the
tallest Yale man wins (probability > 90%). What do the British
bookies collectively think?

As expected, the Brits are making book on our unfortunate situation:

Well, we got there in the end!

Thanks to the scientific evidence presented by grthumongous. I am sure
that the probability of the tallest Yale man has been factored into
the odds calculated by the British bookies, another very shrewd
observation from the talented grthumongous. S/He is certainly one to
watch.

The odds a few minutes ago were GWB 4-11; JK 2-1; The Rest of the
Field including Silicon Samurai's candidate 10-1. Place a bet while
you can (but only if it's legal where you live) ... This is a much
better bet than Hailstorm's Penny Shares. (Don't ask!)

I accept Tutuzdad's evidence that more believe that it does matter BUT
I don't believe it myself. More importantly, was does Tutu herself
think? Maybe she should have a say. Well, Tutu?

I should now like to invite someone to submit an Answer.

If the talented grthumongous were a Researcher then s/he would have
been given an exclusive but instead ...

It's another race and YES even Hailstorm has the opportunity to make a
killing at long last, so on your marks, Get Ready, Get Set ...

GO!

Of course it matters.

Curry tastes very good on almost everything. We already discussed the
Curry Wurst, haven't we? By the way, the recipe is to put curry powder
and ketchup on it.

Bryan,

Wow, thankya thankya for the stars and the large tip! I promise not to
contribute either the stars or the dollars to any political cause
whatsoever, since I think an excess of stars and money has done great
harm to the American political system.
