Question ID: 402112
Situation: I have a Netgear WG614 Wireless Router with a broadband
DLS connection. My wife's computer uses a netgear card and connects
smoothly. I used to have a computer with a Netgear card that connected
without a problem. I now use a Panasonic Toughbook CF-W2 with an
internal wireless card (Intel(R)/Pro 2200BD Network Connection) and I
can no longer get onto the network. More frustrating, if I enable my
wireless connection it kicks my wife's computer off the wireless
network. Occasionally, the computer has indicated that there are two
IP addresses in conflict, but I have not gotten this message for some
time. The router is configured with the IP, gateway, SMP etc. settings
from my DSL provider and I believe the computers are set to find an IP
address automatically. Finally, my wife is able to use the wireless
network while I am online if I disable my wireless connection and plug
directly into the router.
I want to be able to get onto my wireless network but can't figure out
how to do it. Please help

What is your MTU set to?
Is it 1492?

Also, is your Router's firmware version the latest version?

fdesh-ga:

Is your wife's computer using an 802.11b wireless adapter, or an 802.11g version?

The most likely cause of your problem is that your new laptop has a
wireless adapter that is capable of both 802.11b and 802.11g
communications. The Netgear WG614 is also capable of working with both
communication protocols, but has been reported to have problems
working in a mixed-use environment (one where both 802.11b and 802.11g
are in use). If your wife's adapter is an 802.11b one, then when your
802.11g-capable adapter comes online, it will most likely disrupt the
communications between the WG614 and your wife's computer.

Please let me know the exact model of your wife's WiFi adapter, and I
may be able to propose a solution that can get both of you online at
the same time.

I think we are both using g cards (one external and one internal).

Hers is a Netgear Wireless PC Card 32 bit CardBus WG511
54 Mbps Wireless PC Card
32-bit CardBus Model WG511
I purchased this as part of a bundled package with the WGR614 router
(first generation of that model - it does not have any other numbers
after the WGR614)

Since Windows is reporting IP conflicts, would you check the following?
1. Make sure you are not using the same IPs at once. (Use DHCP if you
are not sure.)
My Network Place/Neighborhood -> Connection Properties -> TCP/IP ->
Properties -> Automatically obtain an IP address automatically.
If your router is set to use a static IP address, make sure that two
computers are using two different IP addresses.

Ok - Hope this helps
DCHP on the Router is On
The firmware Version 1.12 Aug 22 2003 which I believe I successfully
updated from the Netware site for my WGR614 Router.
If I understand this correctly, I have entered the IP address, DNS,
Subnet Mask and Gateway into the router based on the info from my ISP.
The wireless modems on each computer is then set to obtain the IP and
DNS automatically.
