While driving through Spain a couple of years ago, I saw some cool
road signs that obviously meant proceed with caution. "Firme en esta
estacion..?" Shoulda taken a picture, but didn't and cannot remember
what they said. If you know the answer would appreciate it.

I think it is the "Firme en mal estado" road sign. You can see a

This means "road surface in bad state".

LA seņal dice " peligro, firme en mal estado" que significa:
peligo: danger
firme: road
mal estado: bad conditions
