Dear mojo_dixon,

The Pasadena Humane Society offers basic training classes in separate
categories for puppies, small adults, and full-sized adults. A
five-week course held on Tuesdays or Thursdays in one-hour sessions
costs $125 for the general public and $100 for PHS or SPCA members.
You may reach the PHS training-registration office at (626) 792-7151,
extension 129.

A firm called Obedience Basics, also in Pasadena, offers three
different programs. A combination of three private sessions (your dog
only) and three semi-private sessions (two to four dogs) costs $450.
For $600 you get a private course with six lessons, of which you may
take just the first three for $300. For more difficult dogs, $800 buys
you a private course with eight lessons, or $400 for just the first
four. It is said that one lesson generally takes an hour and a half.
You can reach Obedience Basics at (626) 792-4528.

Finally, the Pasanita Obedience Club, also in Pasadena, does not
publish its prices online, but you may call them at (626) 797-7070 to
inquire.

"He steals food from the table."
"She won't come back when she's called."
"He destroyed the living room rug."
"She barked until the neighbors complained."
"He's a wonderful dog, but I wish he wouldn't ..?

Lots of dogs have no manners, and their owners are at a loss as to how
to teach them manners. So these hapless folks frequently end up
hollering at poor Misty or smacking Buster on the butt with an open
palm or a newspaper. Even worse, when Rambo doesn't shape up; he's
banished to the basement or the backyard to live his days in solitude,
or he's taken to the pound because "we
just can't deal with him any more."

This is what I feared the most, having an untrained Dog? and I am not
talking about not knowing tricks. When I say untrained, I mean a dog
that is not obedient, one that doesn't listen or know who the alpha
figure is.

As described above, I have seen so many neglected dogs that have been
sent on their way (to the humane society) because of a lack of
obedience.

Knowing this happens daily, really angers me because it is not the
dogs fault - it's the owners fault!

The puppy doesn?t know any better, it's doing what?s natural? and it?s
a shame that the little one has to pay the price for the owners
blatant disinterest.

If all dog owners established themselves as the alpha figure, there
wouldn?t be so many unruly dogs, and even worse? so many dogs taken to
the Human Society (Remember what happens to 60% of dogs taken to the
Humane Society).

I?m sure you can tell this is a sore spot for me - it?s just that I
can?t stand it when owners neglect and then give up on their dogs. I
found the following page that may be helpful...

babaroobob,

tinyurl's are great --today. Google Answers is going to be around for
a veeeerry long time. What happens if tinyurl/shorten-this-URL
doesn't last as long?

Google Answers asks it's Researchers to post direct links, regardless
of length, in anticipation of all the "shorten-this-URL" web site's
demises.

What's a few more characters, in a century?
