I would like to get a list of any stocks on the Nasdaq and

American Stock Exchanges where the price increased 500% or more

from January 2003 to December 2003. It is important that this be for

the calendar year 2003 only...January to December.

  I am not interested in

any stocks that went up %500 or more from February 2003 to February 2004.

I am also not interested in any stocks on the New York Stock Exchange.
Two such stocks whose price went up january to december 2003
500% or more on the nasdaq exchang were Taser
(symbol..TASR)....and Palomar Tech(symbol...PMTI)...I would like a list of
any other stocks that did this on the nasdaq and the amex. The list could
consist of just the ticker symbols , the names, or both...it doesn't matter.
I already have the following names and I am looking for additional ones:

TASR
PMTI
CACS
CKSW
EVOL
FARO
SBAC
XMSR
SSTR
VRYA
FLML
MTEX
ASKJ
CYD
HOMS
INAP
ALGN

Thank you very much..... ladysoul-ga

Hello ladysoul-ga,

This is turning out to be a bit trickier than I thought. I can find
and sort stocks that:

--have increased 500% or more and

--are listed on the Nasdaq and Amex

but I haven't found a way to search on the exact dates you specified.
Instead, the tools I have will search on year-to-date percent
increases, or past year (today, to a year-ago today), and a number of
other time segments. But not for calendar year 2003.

For instance, in the past year, Media Services Group (MSGI on the
Nasdaq has increased 660.8%.

It sounds like the dates were pretty vital to your query, but I just
wanted to double-check. Is there any wiggle-room there, or must it be
January-December 2003?

Let me know.

According to the Wall Street Journal's Friday, Jan. 2, 2004 issue
these were the stocks that moved more than 500% on each exchange. The
total number of stocks traded in each exchange is indicated next to
the exchange symbol; the percentages follow the trading symbol. Note
that some of these are warrants which were exchange traded:

Just as an FYI, here are several NASDAQ stocks that were CLOSE to the 500% line:
ALGN 498.0%
CRNT 485.0%
ITIG 472.1%
KIND warrant B 472.7%
NGEN 481.3%
SCON 491.5%
VASC 481.0%

Interesting, none of the NASDAQ small cap issues listed by the Wall
Street Journal moved more than 100%.

Google search strategy:
There are two good sources for annual stock trading summaries -- the
Wall Street Journal (or Barron's) at the start of the New Year AND the
New York Times. The NY Times keeps a running total of 52-week results
but I've had days in which a stock might not trade -- so prefer the
WSJ for more complete coverage. The first issue of the Journal in
each year shows the percentage change of each stock during the
previous year.

I used the print copy of the Journal from a nearby public library.

THANK YOU SO MUCH...I R3ALLY APPRECIATE YOUR RESEARCH...THE ANSWERS ARE

VERY HELPFUL...HOWEVER I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT IN DOUBLE CHECKING SOME OF THE

FIGURES BY LOOKING UP EACH STOCK MENTIONED ON THE FINASNCE.YAHOO.COM....

THE PERCENTAGES WERE WAY OFF...FOR EQUIX(ACTUALLY RETURNED ONLY ABOUT 500%....

AND RATE(ACTUALLY RETURNED ONLY ABOUT 200%)..ANDF A FEW OTHERS....

HOWEVER IN SPITE OF THAT MOST OF THEM WERE CORRECT..AND THE INFORMATION

IS ESTREMELY USEFUL FOR ME...I APPRECIATE ALL OF YOUR HARD WORK....

THANK YOU AGAIN FOR HELPING ME..IT'S NICE TO KNOW THAT THOROUGH RESEARCHERS

ARE AROUND AND ABLE TO HELP!!!!!!

Ladysoul --

Thanks so much for the excellent rating and extra sum!

I'm at a loss to explain the differences between the Wall Street
Journal and Yahoo! Finance -- though I suspected that there might be
some issues. You might want to check stocks for which there's a
high-level of variance on Yahoo to see if they split during the year.
Generally the Wall Street Journal does a good job of adjusting for
splits.

In another example, you'd cited Taser and Palomar Tech and I wasn't
able to find them in the Wall Street Journal OTC (or Amex) stocks.
There are tens of thousands of "pink sheets" or small cap stocks, so I
simply indicated the range of the Journal's coverage here (1062 on the
Amex; 2861 of the NASDAQ stocks).

Best regards,

Omnivorous-GA
