i work at a hotel and my manager treats us all like crap.. we all feel like we are in jail when we go to work. She plays games with you and she punishes you in her own little way without getting caught. she makes us feel like crap. she yells at you and gets a attitude. when you try to talk to her she walks away and says stuff like " i am the manager and dont question me and mind your own busniess" and she never talkes to you nice.. she calls people names and swears at them. I have talked to the general manager about her and she still wont do nothing about it. she picks the people she likes and treats them really good and gives them what they want and then she picks the people that she dont like and treats them really bad. when we talk to her she just gets more mad and then lashes out more at you. she lies all the time and says the general managers agress with everything i have to say and when you go and talk to her she dont know nothing your talking about. She dont care about non of her employees excpet a couple, she will sign u a job and if she gets mad at you she will make you do stuff you dont like and she will say again she is the manager dont question me. she dont like to hire mexicans cause they dont speak no english and they are not hard workers and she would prefer white people. So many people come and go there cause they dont like the way she manages. alot of people have known her for awhile and says she has always been like that. when she dont like u she tryes to find everyway to write you up so she can fire you and then she dont have to worry about you no more. I have been sexually harrast at work been i dont want to tell her cause it was her mom that did it ( she works there) and i knwo that if i file somethin she will lash out at me even more and make it unbareable there. what her mom did was slap my butt one day when i was bending over and said " oh i just couldnt resist" and i felt really uncomfertable. she also has done this to other employees but no one wants to say anything. My question is what can we do about it.? who can we talk to about this? is there anything we can do? alot of us want to quit but cant cause we need the money but the money we make there is not worth it nothings worth being there. we talked to people there they dont want to help they just say we have to find a way to get along and stop fighting, i have asked for a employee hand book but she keeps changing her story. can you answer my question?? | |

Hi crazyfun. I am sorry your employment is going so poorly. Are you in the USA? A USA citizen? Have you been an employee of this hotel longer than the current manager? If you are working in the US and have a passport you cannot be treated the way you describe - that is discrimination. If you are an illegal alien it is going to be tough because you cannot report her without reporting yourself. Lets assume you are in this country legally. I would first try to be very, very nice to this person, be very humble, work harder than everyone else, keep quiet. Sometimes this will make the offensive person feel guilty enough that she will quit bothering you. If you get another job don't work for a woman. It seems like you have already talked to the supervisor of the offensive boss so your next step would be to report her and the hotel to one of the government agencies that regulates discrimination. I personally have met lots of Mexican people. They have all been very nice, and hardworking. There are good people and bad people of all nationalities. Unfortunately, there are always going to be people who discriminate against others. I don't know what else to tell you except that maybe you can look for another job. If you live in Mexico and work there, I don't know what would help you because I am unfamiliar with Mexican laws regarding workers. |

Talk to a lawyer. Explain how it is a pattern of behavior that has affected many other employees as well. The more people involved, the larger the possible consequen$es and the more likely he/she will take the case on contingency, which means that you don't pay unless you win. If you cannot get the help of a private attorney, you are stuck with legal aid and government agencies. You won't get any money, but if several employees complain, you can probably get your manager fired. This sucks, but can you get a job somewhere else? I hate to see anyone have such a bad work environment. There are lots of hotels. |
