Courageous kids

Every day, some kids are out there hatching ideas, making plans,
building dreams, all to make the world a better place. It takes a lot
of courage to try to change things. We applaud young people who try to
make a difference in their communities.

Children of courage

Matthew, 11, Herefordshire

?Last November, Matthew went Christmas shopping with his mum and
12-year-old brother when their car crashed. Sadly, his brother Ben was
killed but mum is sure she'd have died too if it wasn't for the
courage and calm of Matthew. He freed her from her seatbelt to stop
her choking then climbed out the back window for help.?

Matthew, 13, Oldham

?Matthew was 5 when his mum suffered a rare brain virus. He helped out
with the family, getting up early to make breakfast for him and his
sister, making the beds, getting out his mum's clothes and measuring
out her medication before going to school. At lunchtime, he goes back
to check she's OK. His school work hasn't suffered and he's in the top
sets in all his classes.?
