Question ID: 402875
I removed one of the identities in Outlook Express and when this
occured I lost all emails associated with this identity, as well as
the address book. How can I retrieve these emails (and email
addresses) from my PC? Is there a way to locate them and import them
into my other identity, which is still running. As far as I know I am
running the latest Outlook Express, Windows XP and Internet Explorer.

Please keep answers simple and precise if possible.

thanks in advance!

Hi!!

First of all try to not use your email client until you can recover your mails.

Then try with one of these products:

-Final Email:
I used this and worked fine for me.
http://www.finaldata.com/sub_products/products_1.asp?p_no=10&pc1_code=winc

-Recover My Files
http://www.recovermyfiles.com/Recover_deleted_email.html

-Restorer2000:
http://www.bitmart.net/r2k.shtml

Demo versions will let you preview the contents of the deleted files
on your hard drive.

Let me know how this works in order to continue the research if it is necessary.

Best regards.

Hi again!!

I want to add the following:
You probably have deleted several DBX files. If you can identify them
with one of the above demo version then using a freeware that let you
recover deleted files you can recover them and finally import them
again into OE. This task is more risky than the offerred by Final
Email for example, but it is possible to do.

These freeware programs will help you if you decide to follow this way:

-PC INSPECTOR File Recovery:
http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/manual.htm
http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/download.htm

-R-UNDELETE File Recovery and Undelete Software:(shareware)
http://www.freewareseek.com/utils/789/

-Handy Recovery:
http://www.webmasterfree.com/software/SystemUtilities/DataRecoveryTools/handy_recovery.html

Note that the file recovery programs mostly require to be installed on
a second drive or partition.
Please also remember that under Windows XP you will have to have
Administrator rights to perform most of these tasks.

Other tools that can help you are:
-R-Mail Outlook Express Mail Recovery Software: (shareware)
http://www.newfreeware.com/internet/564/

-Advanced Outlook Express Repair (AOER):(shareware)
http://www.outlook-express-repair.com/

-DBXtract: (shareware $5)
"DBXtract extracts all mail and news messages from individual dbx
files. After extracting the messages one can drag them from a Windows
Explorer folder into an Outlook Express mail folder."
http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx

Hope that this helps you.

Regards.

Solid answers. Some of the software recommended didn't live up to expectations
