I live in the USA and just received my permanent visa for Brazil. I am shipping my household goods to Brazil. What is the best way to ship my 1976 750 cc BMW motorcycle to Brazil? If is is not possible, should I ship it to Argentina and drive it to Brazil? Are there any taxes or duties imposed on the motorcycle value? I have owned it since new. Thank you. |

Just one more thing, you'll have to license the motorcycle with a Brazilian license plate if you keep riding it in Brazilian's territory for a long time. But it won't cost you much and you will have to ask about it in the state's transit department of the city you're going to live. luntes |

Hello, paulsobe, Because I made a mistake, my first comment was erased (Sorry, Google Answers staff. It won't happen anymore). If you're coming with a permanent visa to Brazil (I'm in Brazil),that is, you're coming to live here, you have the right to bring all your personal belongings (furniture, car, motorcycle, whatever) that is of your use without having to pay taxes because they're not meant to be commercialized (sold) in Brazil. Of course, if you bring, for example, dozens of new watches, customs will be "suspicious", but if this is not the case, customs staff will consider your things as necessary for you to stablish your new living here. So, don't worry about your motorcycle and don't send it to Argentina because, depending on where you're going to stay in Brazil, it might be very far away. I would suggest that you ship it along with your other personal goods. This not an answer for your question because I'm not a GA researcher and my comment is free. I'm writing at night and customs telephones are not available in the moment. I'll call it tomorrow and if there's any information different from what I tell you now, I'll post a comment. Have a nice stay in Brazil. Luntes |
