Very simple I think, with a great price.
I am basically looking for a picture of the (now gone) following
structure. I am looking for two different pictures (at different
angles if possible) of the castle which might be known as the Jacob
castle or the Bay Eva castle. Included needs to be idenfied what your
resource was for getting the picture. |

Where was it located and what was its purpose (or who was the owner)?
Anything more you can offer might also help.

For your information here is the further question you asked.
The castle was once the home of the Jacob family from the late--1800's
to the mid--1900's. The castle was located in the Fort Bennett Park
in Arlington, Virginia. The address of the park and and this once
standing castle was 2220 N. Scott Drive. The castle was demoltioned in
1994.

I managed to find one old photo of the castle. The photo is a color
(or colorized) shot looking upward toward the structure. It's hard to
tell how large the building would have been by absent comparision but
it must have been enormous.
Will this single photo do as an answer?

I didn't find any more photos but I have since found a nine-page
artilce about the castle with contact infromation about how to
potentially acquire a copy of it. An article this large may also have
some very nice photos but I am not certain if it does or not. At any
rate, it will have some good information about the structure to be
sure.
Just let me know if you would like me to close your question with these results.

Yes, feel free to send that to me. But no, I don't want my question
to end until I find a picture of this castle. You will get the money
if you can find two pictures of the castle as in my orginial question.

Ok, here's what I have:
I have found two photos. One is on the internet and readily
accessible. The second is a black and white photo in a magazine (I've
spoken to the Editor myself and he has confirmed this to me). The
magazine also contains photos of the owner, his wife, and another
notable landmark that was on the property at one time.
Since there does not appear to be another readily accessible photo I
would not be opposed if you chose to reduce your offering price to a
figure more suitable to what I DO have and allow me to post my
research as an answer based on what IS available.
Is this suitable to you as a compromise?

I'll tell you what I'll do - I don't make it a habit of giving my
research away but since I've worked with you before and you've always
been kind and honest with me I'll make an exception here and trust
"your" judgement on this one. I'll post what I have for you to examine
and if it is less than what you had hoped for you can adjust your
price accordingly to accomodate it.
After an exhaustive search I believe this is the best that can be
done. Just let me know what you think.

Dear stephenh-ga;
Here are some sources to two photos of the castle overlooking the
Potomac River in Arlington, Virginia that once belonged to Dr. J. Bay
Jacobs and his wife Eva:
JACOBS CASTLE
http://www.dupontcastle.com/castles/jacobs.htm
I also happen to know that another photo appears in a 1991 issue of
?Arlington Historical Magazine? (Vol.9, No.3, P.44-52, ?Jacobs
Castle?, by Dorothea E. Abbott).
ARLINGTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Here is what I know about the two photos from speaking to W. Karl
VanNewkirk, Editor of Arlington Historical Magazine (who was kind
enough to examine and compare the two photos):
The photo that appears the internet (see first link above) is probably
of better quality than the one in the magazine.
The photo in the magazine is not nearly as cropped and shows slightly
more area around the house including a driveway and a parked vehicle.
The magazine article also contains 3 other photos - one of Dr. J. Bay
Jacobs, one of his wife Eva Jacobs, and one of the ?old covered spring
house? that was apparently of historical interest as well.
While these are two different photos, both photos of the castle were
taken from basically from the same relative angle, as this was
probably either the nearest public access to the house or the most
suitable photographic vantage point.
The internet photo appears to be colorized and the one in the magazine
is black and white.
??..
You can contact the Editor of the Arlington Historical Magazine about
obtaining a back issue containing the additional photos:

Thank you for your great help ! I have really apprecaited it. I took
up your offer and lowered the price. I hope that was OK. You are a
great researcher and you know your stuff. Thank you for telling me
your research secret. I will use the information you provided me and
contact the person listed. I guess for now, you have done a
successful job and yes you may move the question over to the section
of "Answered" and instead of what it is now a clarification question.
If I need any further follow-up I will let you know.
Thank you

Hello,
HHMMMMMM,
I have apprecaited all the hard work you did for me. I did follow-up
on the information you gave me. It was great. However I am not totally
satified with the information I have gotten yet. It is defintely NOT
because of your research. I mean just in general. I think that there
still must be a better picture of the castle that I could get,
somewhere, somehow. Do you think this is true or do you think that we
have covered all our basic outlets on the subject. If you coulld find
more, I would be willing to raise the price even higher if you want me
too.

Unfortunatley, once the question is officially answered the
transaction is closed. This is why I took such great precasution to
make sure you were agreeable to the research before giving me
permission to post it.
In other words, there "IS NO WAY" to alter the price either up or
down. Your best bet is to post a seperate question and maybe another
researcher will be able to probe potential sources that I am not aware
of.
